Default New Tranny question!!

hey guys i have a '94 Chevrolet Silverado truck..and i do a little racing and i have the stock 4L60-E that came in the truck when i bought it..i was thinking about swapping trannies because i plan on adding alot of performance parts..so far i have 100 shot of nitrous, and a bigger cam to add..and i plan on adding lots more..so i was thinking..would the TH-400 be a good buy? i was just wondering..and also where can i get one for pretty cheap..

Well a Hyramatic 400 would be fine if you are no longer interested in the truck being and everyday driver , With the performance modes your planning coupled with the lower gears most people install and higher stall converter,With the 400 you will loose alot of drivability .Personally unless you think your going to cross the 850 plus hp mark .i WOULD JUST GET A WELL BUILT 4L60E,and have both worlds
opinion

The 12" torque converter would not be a good idea here. Depending on how you drive, what the rear end gear ratio is, what the cam duration is at .050" lift, and lobe centerline, etc., would determine the stall. I would go with the 9.5" lockup torque converter, much easier on the gear train when using nitrous & any upgrades in power.

Do you do a lot of freeway driving? or just around town? What is the duration of the cam you are going to use at .050" lift? and the lobe centerline? Is this a daily driver or weekend warrior? I need as much information as you can give me, as this will determine the stall that you will need, and what rear end gear ratio to go with.

the specs on the cam are: duration 216/224 and the lift .454/.480 and the lobe separation is 112. i dont do much freeway driving..mostly around town.. i use it as a daily driver but i love to go out on the weekend and race people at a bridge we have marked off a quarter of a mile.. i have a Jet tb spacer and a 40 series flowmaster with no catalytic converter, and i plan on getting another one and running true duals, i also have a ADS superchip, but i plan on adding the 100 shot of nitrous, cam, long tube headers, edelbrock intake manifold, new heads, and then work towards the inside such as new crank, pistons..that kinda stuff..but let me know what kinda stall i would need..thanks
