Default Noise comming from transmission

Well ever since I got the car (about 4K ago) I have been hearing this whining noise coming from what I thought was the rear. So I rebuilt it, Installed new bearings, seals and a Tru Trac and I still have this noise. As speed increases the noise gets louder. When I let off the gas its still there but it sounds a little choppy. But the thing that leads me to think it’s not the rear is with I put the car in neutral the noise goes away???? I figure if it’s the rear end it would be there all the time and would have gone away when I rebuilt it anyways. And the sound sounds like its coming from directly under me. Anyone have any idea of whets going on with my car???

Did you change the pinion bearings? Does the noise come and go if you get on and off the throttle?

Placing the car in neutral would not eliminate the rear , When I had my mustang it had a while under acceleration and when you get off and would go away in neutral because theres no load , in my case it was the pinion depth was off just a little rear ends are real tricky just a few fractions off and you have noise ,

I'm not saying that it's not in the trans but I would pull the diff cover and look for metal on the magnet. Are you running an after market gear? This could be a problem if it is not set up properly. Backlash, pinion depth, and the wear pattern are all very critical as I believe someone else has already stated.

The choppy sound is what makes me think its a differential setup issue , The reason it feels sounds choppy is the load changes up and down when you let off the throttle due to drive train drag through the tranny there is none in neutral so its close to having just the driveshaft alone little to no drag , Though like vince I cant say its definatly not the tranny but Im betting on the differential .
