Default TH400 shifting compared to TH350??

How is the shifting of a 350 compared to a 400? My 400 takes about 700rpm to shift. I am talking about having my shift light set at 6400 rpms to keep from hitting a 7200rpm rev limit before the shift. Is a 350 the same way or does it shift quicker?

I went with the 400 for the strength, but I feel like I am losing some ET from the lagging shift, not to mention the inconsistency. I mean the first time I ran the 1/4 I ended up letting out in 3rd at 6400 because my shift light came on.

With a built to the hilt 350, could it hold up to a 3800lb car with 600ft lbs (DynoJet) of torque?

ever consider a 4L80E? that'll solve your problems completely.

Something wrong. The shift time for a TH400 compared to a TH350 should be identical, and by identical I mean both should have shift times in the 20-30 milisecond range. My manual valve TH400 shifts absolutely instantaneously.

I guess I should add that I am used to a M6, when you pull the shifter back it is there. It just seems like it takes too long from the time I pull the shifter back until the time it actually shifts into gear.

It only feels like this when I am at WOT. When I am just cruising around, it does seem pretty quick.

when the shifter hits the stop it should be in the next gear. if it lags after the shifter stops, your clutch pack clearances are probably a little loose.

I had the same proble. You might need to have someone look at your shift kit. I had to enlarge the holes in the separator plate, now it shifts when it supose to.

Ditto! Mine is in the next gear super quick with my TH400. It's kinda wierd after using the 4L60E for so long with it's 1-2 second delay...

did it just start doing this, or does it do it all the time?
hot?
cold?
sounds like a worn set of clutches.
it should be in gear before you can even fully ratchet the shifter.
like everyone else says
INSTANTLY.
good luck.

This is something that has happened since it was installed. It was built using racing clutches and all the good stuff inside by a reputable builder (local)

I am going to try this weekend to check the line pressure and try launching off the foot brake and see if it makes any difference.

It only seems to be lagging at WOT, when I am just cruising around, 2nd shifts instantly, 3rd does not seem as quick, but then again it is a 4400 stall.
