Default Valve body locked after shiftkit install

Ok so we followed the steps of the shift kit everything went pretty smooth. While the transmission was out i cycled through all the gears with it on the ground everything felt fine. After i got the trans back in the car and went to hook the shifter cable up it wouldnt come outta first gear!?!?!? SO if anyone has any idea on what happend i would greatly appreciate any advice.

Sounds likie the cable is bound up. Did you have shifter lever off the trans? Are you sure that you got the manual valve connected properly? Try taking the cable off the trans, leaving the lever on there, how does the lever on the trans shift? If it seems ok than you have a cable issue. Also verify that you have the bracket for the cable in the correct set of holes. Vince

Are you sure that the shifter lever is not on backwards? Did you have it off? If it is on backwards it could be binding against the pan. Vince

No i havent messed with the shifter lever... its werid with the trans outta the car it would go through all the gears fine after we installed the kit. Since i put the converter in and got the trans back in and went to cylce through the gears to put it in neutral to line up the cable i put it into low to count back and it stayed there and wont come outta low.

If all looks ok, maybe you should loosen the linkage rod nut, remove the manual valve link and see how the manual valve moves in and out of the valve body. You could have some debris in there or possibly a check ball rolled down in there binding the manual valve. Here is a picture of how every thing should look like when you drop the pan.

Thanks for the pic it looks like that except that the manual valve is all the way in the body since its suck in first. It does seem like the valve got stuck or something and i know that your saposed to grind the edge of that valve according to the transgo installations. Ill pull it out tommorow and post back up.

To be honest with you I only grind the manual valve on earlier(93-95) valve bodies because they had an issue with reverse release oil I believe. It is ok to do it on the later ones but not an issue with the later castings. This could be your problem if the valve has a burr. The only problem is that you might have gaulled the valve body. Lets hope not. Vince

Wow, yeah that can be detrimental to say the least. Remember that valve bodies are very dainty and should be handled with care. All of the corner bolts should be hand tightended after starting all of the bolts to insure proper alignment and then they should all be torqued to 8 ft#'s. That ain't much torque!

Use transgel/vaseline to hold the BB's in their places while installing the VB.
