Default Tranny problem

I have a built 4l60e with about 4000 miles on it. I took the car out last week for about a 40 min. ride and had absolutely no problems with it. I ended up having to take the car to work today which is about a ten min. drive and the tranny was running like ****.

First off I was criusing at about 40 mph and if I would give it more gas the rpm would come up but the car wouldn't move any faster ( almost as if I was in neutral). Next I tried putting the peddle to the floor to see what would happen and the car would downshift an take off pretty good but then end up bouncing off the rev limiter.

The only other thing I noticed was ussually my tranny temp. on the highway is about 100 to 120 degrees and on back roads it is about 140 to 160 degrees. During these issues today It was running at about 180 degrees and rising before I got to work.

can tightening the bands or what ever fix this ?

my a4 is slippin in and out of 4th like when i gas it to pass someone on the road it kinda like slides into 3rd as opposed to being kicked down into 3rds. 60k miles this week just turned 60k, it seems like my problem surfaced the very week she turned 60k. sad day in my pants

best way i can describe it, as a DJ mind you.... it feels like my tranny has gone analog and is more or less sliding up through the gears and not kicking into the gears like a digital track by track type of deal.

sucks ballz

I don't know too much about a4's but I was also told that this could be a bad solonoid. Any truth to that.

hey man i really appreciate your help, gonna hafta see whats up on some $$ tho, honestly i would like to swap to an m6, i just dont like the idea of an entire tranny ******* up costing me 2k every couple of years, when i could just replace a clutch every 30k miles, just seems more cost effective, just gonna be a bitch to do the swap, as i have very little mechanical experience and cash flow.

question tho, so yes i understand my clutches are more than likely the problem, but one of the things i found out about my car is , it still had the original plugs in it when i got it, how do i know this? when i changed the plugs they were originals.

so im guessing same is probably for the trans fluid, would having bad / old / dead fluid give me the same exact results im gettin now ? basically, would it be a waiste of money right now to get the whole thing flushed inside and out, hoping it will fix my problem, or should i just save up for the m6?

thanks bro, dance for life

I would save the money , But I would go back auto to , i read all the forums and theres just as many people making complaints about the M6 as the auto , Really no matter what trans you go with it comes down to something I was told a long time ago ,You Play You Pay, that was what was told me the first time i broke my trans at 16

It took a long time but finally found out it was my 3-4 clutches that were shot. He also told me that it almost took him a whole week to just get the tranny opened up to figure out the problem because the 3 -4 band was melted to the case. Now I thought that band also controlled second gear and I had perfect use of second gear wich doesn't make any sense to me.

Supposedly everything else in the tranny was still good except for the 3-4 clutches and he wants to charge me $1500.00 to replace them after I just spent $2800.00 six months ago for the tranny.
