What was the code that you got? Also is there a reason that your car has been sitting for 2 years? Have you put a stall tc in since you last drove the car? Are you getting any other codes?

yes that sounds right. i just flushed the tranny and the level is ok. it shifts fine under all other conditions. there is a kind of hack job done on the speed sensor. i don't know what happened there. i think it's the speed sensor.

The speed sensor is very important and this could very well be your problem. Vince

Agreed with vince the speed sensor can cause all sorts of issues and codes that could lead you in a different direction , I would definatley address that first

What is the purpose of the device that is inline with the VSS? A proper speed sensor signal is paramount to the proper operation of the transmission.

And since the "reflash" was performed has the computer stored any codes... if so specifically what are they?

If there have been any changes in the driveline that will affect final gear ratio those changes can and will affect WOT shift points if they are not addressed in the PCM software. Specifiaclly if the torque converter, rear axle gears or the tire size have been changed a similar condition to what you have described will occur.

the box either tricks the car into thinking it has stock gears or it changes the signal for the new gears. there was one code for internal slipping. but i cleared it and it has not come back. the new gears are 3.42's. the guy said that he can't reflash it because gm did not put those gears in that year car.(98 z28) the cruise control was on the car new. i do have a bent axle too. i didn't think that would matter though.

First off I will say that I am not a tuner. However I have never heard of the box on the vss wires to trick the computer. If your tuner said that he could not tune it because of the gears I would look to contact another tuner for a second opinion. It also might be a good idea to contact HP tuners or the guy's at LS1 Edit and see what they have to say about the gear ratio info for the 98 model year.SEE SPONSORS LIST------------> I have heard of many different issues with the 98 computers and have been told by a couple different tuners that they really are a PITA!
