Default Would a Yank PT4000 converter be wrong for me???

A local guy has a brand new in the box Yank PT4000 converter going for a great price...

My car is a 1998 Z28 with:

SLP Lid
De-Screened MAF
SLP Bellow
Ported TB
LS6 Intake

Mac Mid-Length Headers (no emissions, no cats)
4" Mufflex Exhaust (Spintech muffler dual 3" out)

NOS 5177 Dry Kit 100 shot (will eventually be 125-150 shot when I upgrade the fuel system and tune it)

IT WILL SOON GET:

CNC Ported LS6 Cylinder Heads
M4 Magic Stick 239/242 112LSA

The car is COMPLETELY A DAILY DRIVER... It will MAYBE see the track a couple of times a year...

I need a stall converter before I can put that cam in and this one is a great deal...

My question is two parts:

1) How streetable is this converter? I will be in bumper to bumper traffic on the 405 at times and also have mountain driving to contend with...

2) Will I still be able to occasionally spray the car?

Thanks for helping a stall noobie out!!!

Well then. Read some stickies about converters and I'll let you know what I know. By no means am I an expert on this. You should also contact Dave @ Yank. He's here on this board as well.

It will work great with that cam. As far as spray, if you keep it to the 100 you'll be OK. But it will get alot looser if you much larger shot than that. As far as DD in heavy traffic. I would HIGHLY suggest you get one or two(double system) Tranny coolers with maybe some small aux fans to help keep your temps down. You should get a tranny temp gauge and run it too. It will be loose for some DD in that situation. I cant tell you much for the mountians though..

Good luck! BTW, I have a PT4000 sitting at home waiting for me to install once I get home from my deployment

It would be a good verter for that h/c setup, maybe too much stall for the spray.**** just do it,it will work. That setup will be badass, make sure you have a badass tuner to tune that beast!

The PT series has a lower STR (2.25) so it will definitely be loose around town. I have always been told that the PT series won't work with nitrous because the shift extension is already way up there. With the addition of spray, it will push the shift extension too high IMO. Like mentioned, PM Yank.....they'll set you straight.

Mark,

I can tell you right now, it won't be good. Although if you were into drag racing or street racing from a roll, plus only N/A ... that would be a great converter. But for 405 traffic and mountain cruises, it will not work. Around traffic it may, but you may get tired of the extra revs you will need to get it going (around 2600). For the mountains, it will be an ON/OFF switch, you would need a tighter converter (more STR). This would also work for traffic. For the nitrous, you are border line now. But with a 150 shot you are better off getting a PYE style converter. As suggested, talk with Yank and they will help you out on your selection. Do you currently have a stall? If not, you can experience my B&M unit and I can explain how a looser stall will function in person.

I believe it is around 5200-5400. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Mine is around 5500

The verter is great and would be fine with the 100 shot. Couple of locals used it and ran a 150shot with out blowing through the verter. You'll be ok.

I had stalls on my other cars so I know what you're saying... I'll just contact you when I'm ready and we'll go from there... THANKS!

I DD a PT 4400 and I will be spraying a 100 shot here pretty soon. The converter is loose but, it is not as bad as people make it out to be. But when you go WOT on a converter like that you car will HAUL ***!!!!! I can't wait to spray on it. BTW my PT4400 does not lock up either and I still DD it.

I have a PT4000 and this converter is sick! Import Slayer said that his lockup doesnt work neither does mine and it's a tuning issue. You willi LOVE the PT4000 it pulls hard up top!! Also hits hard too

The PT4000 is great N/A converter. . The shift extension for mine is around 5400 rpms. Extension tuning is required for this converter. I finally nailed mine and it's actually pretty streetable at this point, but I believe too loose for a daily driver (especially in heavy start stop traffic). Comes down to personal preference.
