Torquer 2 shiftpoints A4
I'm tuning my car and am trying to get my shiftpoints lined up before I head back to the track this year to finally try my new cam out. What would you say is the highest RPM I should shift at? The cam I have makes power to 6800+ or so (TSP Torquer 2 232/234/ .595"/.598" on a 113). Right now I'm hoping to shift at 6600 rpms on the 1-2, and 6500 on the 2-3 and 3-4. Now I can probably turn 100 more rpms or so but dont wanna cause any damage to my engine or trans, My engine rev limiter will be set to 6750rpms. My car is a 99 and my trans is built with the best parts and hardened 4L65E output shaft. I have a Yank SS4000/2.6str. Should I shift lower due to rod bolts? Thanks for your help.

Im not that familiar with tuning issues but when it come to shifts set the shift rpm for 1-2 aprox 100 rpm before you actually want the shift to occur and set 2-3 aprox 200 to 300 rpm before you want the shift to occur based on a good transmission properly built. this is information I have gathered looking at various forums and what others do , Hope it helps some ,

thanks performabuilt. Since the cam is good to 6900, I'll wanna shift by 6700-6800 so i'll try setting the 1-2 at possibly 6600 and 6500 on the 2-3 and 3-4 and go from there.

-edit- Greg:
Dennis' car is set almost 200 RPMs higher than our target in order to hit it; Jason's is about 150 RPMs higher than intended for 1-2 and about 50 RPMs higher than the 2-3 intended point. Starr's built up A4 made the 1-2 whenever the hell it wanted to (about 5800ish) regardless of the MPH OR RPM tables.... which is odd since it should be engaged by the PCM driven shift solenoid.

Well like I said not real familiar with tuning , I have heard that from both ends some have to set much lower and i have see a few people say they had to set higher. Apparently it almost seems like its close to guess work , But I am sure its quite complicated .
So I salute those who do

From what I've seen you're best off running it out to
whatever the hardware (valvetrain, transmission) can
handle because the rear wheel torque output will still
be better in current gear than upshifted.
Some people say RPM kills 4L60Es and how much truth
there is to it, I have no knowledge. There's a big long
thread about it that seems pretty light on facts (so
no need to add further fog here).
The converter choice varies the MPH amount-of-lead
needed to stay out of the way of RPM upshift. So
does motor torque and trans cycle time. Cut and try.
Good luck tuning that 3-4 upshift on the street, with
your 2.73 gears....
