shifting problems
ive asked this question before but i have a 2000 camaro sswith an auto. if i put the shifter into drive and hammer it the car hits the rev limiter from 2nd to 3rd even when we dropped the shift points down but if i start the shifter in overdrive and hammer on it it shifts fine. Any help with this problem would be great thanks
The difference is the overun clutch is coming on to in the d position taking fluild away from the 3-4 clutch .

Well it may last a while. Alot of stock trans have this problem. Just dont let it do a auto shift from 2-3 in D and think about getting a built unit if your planning on racing around. Rebuilt is not the answer.

Not to step on anybodies toe's here. I have tested a lot of FLT units and do not see the pressure loss in the 3rd position of the shifter with the overruns coming on when it hits 3rd gear. I have heard this explanation over the years but do not see it on the dyno gauges with my units. I wounder if this is caused by shops rebuilding units and reusing the overrun piston or in a used transmissions case, is it that the seal is just bad. I really do not have the answer because I can not see it with my units nor do I test used transmissions. Sorry not to be of more help. Vince
We have not had the problem with our units either but I have heard many many people complain about it with the stock unit, Personally I think its the excessive 3-4 clutch clearance that the stock unit and some rebuilt units have. With the larger clearance there would be a greater fluid requirement , I see on various boards several people who have done the test and noted the drop then a rise as far as i know these were stock units,But like vince I have not personally tested stock units. But it does seem to be a logical reason for the occurance.
