Default h/c + bolt ons = death for my 4l60e?

I am installing some prc 2.5r heads and a 230/234 cam plus ported 90/90, pulley and lt's etc. It currently has a B&M tranny cooler & a tci ssf 3500 stall. Looking for between 400-420rwhp - am i asking for instant death on my 4l60e? It has about 39k miles on it. Am I safe on the dyno with it? I only plan on having it dyno tuned one time (don't know how many runs they'll need to make) and perhaps 5 1/4 mile runs. Any light to shed on this would be greatly appreciated!

Keep the shift points below 6,500 and the trans temp under control. A deep pan may help... RWHP is not the major killer of this trans, it is heat and RPM.

first time I raised the shift points over 6500 it was gone in about 5 passes.

If it fails get a real builder to do one right for you. Why is it people mod the **** out of their motor but never touch the trans and get pissed when it fails?

Deep trans pan allows you to keep more fluid in the system and maintain cooler temps. Think of how much harder it is to boil a large pot of water vs. a small pot of water. Magnet is right though, don't get your hopes up too much because this transmission is not the toughest.

Agreed. Also, since youre not tuned yet, take it easy. With those engine mods you can easily bounce off the rev limiter... don't do it. Ask me how I know...

I havent taken it apart yet, but I don't think it's toast. Figured someone else could learn from my mistake: Lots of mods, no tune and a heavy foot could be a little too much... I knew that, but I did already have a new trans on the way.

That's how I know...

I agree, at the same time, understand that a stall converter=more heat by just that mod alone....

Mines lasting pretty good. 408rwhp with a 4000 stall and running 11's all day long. No one else mentioned it but one of the biggest killers is roll racing. It's a no no for the a4, it doesn't like to down shift. Also like others said, don't let it get too hot. I pull it over and let it cool if it gets up to 180, it usually stays around 160. I'm in the process of installing a procharger now so I'll see how long it lasts at the 600-650rwhp level. Something tells me that might be pushing it a bit, lol.

The 60E is the only thing keeping me from throwing a cam in mine.
I know theres a really good chance its gonna pop going cam only, and I dont have the money to put a built one in. Been there done that with my LT1......

I love to hear people saying how their stock trans is lasting, gives me some hope. Maybe RPM is the key, and no so much rwhp??
