Default stall or gears

I have a 2005 corvette. I have a lg pro long headers. I also have a vararam.
I recently installed a t-rex cam . My question is I'm intrested in buying a stall or gears. What would benefit my car more to be quicker in the quarter mile?

stall from what ive heard can drop u a half second in the quarter. I did gears (cause i broke mine) and stepped to 3.73's from 3.23's. It feels a touch quicker by my guess would be only a tenth or two in the quarter

One of the magazines did a comparison on stall vs. gears a few years ago. If I remember right: They varied different stall speeds while keeping the gear constant, then they varied the gears while keeping the stall constant.
Outcome was very similar for 60 ft, 1/4 and 1/8 mile.

Personally, I would go with a good high stall converter with lock-up. This will give you the best of both worlds- get into the rpm range where your making power when your nailing it off the line and maintain lock up when cruising. One of the few mods that will make you quicker and not lose mileage.

With gears only you will have to contend with the higher rpm range on the high way.

I have a 2005 c6 z51 and I have 373 gears and a vigalante 3200 converter and these 2 mods are the best mods I have put on any vechicle.Do them both because it is cheaper labour wise why everything is open up.GARY

save your money and do both. I did 3.42s swap from 2.73s and Yank 3500. Of course there is also tune involved.

I did both at the same time. However, if i had to pick one then it would be a Yank converter.

def stall tc first..

after a stall tc, changing ratios will usually only net you about .1 and 1mph in the 1/4 no matter what ratio u go to, because a stall gets you in your powerband and keeps you there.

Stall for sure. Me and a friend had cars that were almost alike but his had a ton more mods and my stalled car would WALK his car with gears and more bolt ons. 3400 rpm stall ftw.

a stall no doubt. you will see better gains from a stall and it will help your cam get in its power range sooner...

or just do both at the same time like me and then you dont have to worry about which one to do first
