Default Yank 4K stall

Im really interested in getting a Yank converter and they seem to be the best so might aswell spend my money on the best right, well im looking into getting a 4k stall converter from them but not sure on the SS or PT one. My plans are to run a MS4 cam with heads, going to upgrade to 3.73s, and all the bolt ons i dont already have. so my question is my friends 03 evo with a **** load of stuff done to it pulls me on the highway really good he usually gets about 2-3 car lengths but then i start to gain after i get up to speed, since i have 2.73s that is one main reason but im wondering how much a 4K stall will really help?? and what is the difference between a non lockup converter and a lockup converter???

Any Yank for your car will be a lock-up so don't worry about that. You definitely want the lock-up though. It helps with gas mileage/tranny temps. For your plans, I'd go with the PT4000. H/C NA setups work well with that converter. It'll pull harder on the highway and launch a little easier with the 2.2 STR. 3.73's make that one an easy choice. With my 3.23's, the SS4000 worked better for me with the 2.6 STR. Makes for a tighter city driver. Your gears will offset the lower STR of the PT series and it's worth it for the better topend. Good luck and hope this helps.

I've had 2 Yanks (PT4400 and PT4000) and 2 Vigilantes (3000 and 3800 stall). Both brands are high quality.

The lockup feature mechanically links the two halves of the converter (otherwise it's a fluid coupling) for better fuel economy (it reduces energy losses). Normally the PCM engages lockup when cruising at highway speed. It probably keeps the heat down, too.

My car has a manual lockup switch which, when engaged after the 2-3 shift, increases my trap speed by several mph--though it's apparently hard on the transmission.

If you plan on spraying the car Yank recommends the SS as the shift extension on the PT series is generally too long for spray.

I just ordered my yanks this week just call them ask for Dave he was extremely helpful on the phone. He will help you decide which converter will best fit your car. He told me to go with the yank ss 3600 so that is what I have coming..... Cant wait to get that bitch!

I Just installed my ss3600 last weekend, and its a really nice verter, I personally love it. Maybe in the future I will go with a bigger one, but for right now, that is plenty for me.

Actually, Yank recommends the PT converter for nitrous applications with a 215-230 cam, but they also advise having a numerical rear gear ratio of 4.10+. See their Website.

I have a SS 4000.. It is a little loose for my tates for city driving. I and sending it back to be tightened up to 3600.. Anything over 1/4 throttle just roast the tires.. Make sure you got some sticky tires to get the most out of the lead foot..

ST Yank 4000 here and I daily drive the car, run 150 shot at the track and spray through all the shifts. In other words, I beat the crap out of the converter. NO issues. I dropped from 13.5 @ 103 to 12.5 @ 106 by adding the converter and sticky tires. Everything else was stock at the time except for a lid.

Give Dave a call but I would go with the PT4000 for your setup. Good luck.

Yeah, it will help out some. I don't know how long these guys that are getting their conveters tightened up drove with them before they made that decision, but I was almost in the same boat with my SS3800 but after learning how to adjust my driving style around the converter I wished I had gotten a 4000 If you don't like it at first ride it out and get the feel for the converter and you'll forget what stock felt like!!

I might be an oddball, but I think the SS4000 is plenty tight with 3.23's. Before I had an ST3500 and this converter feels very similar until WOT. It's all personal preference I guess.

Yeah it seems like everyone wants more power and cant blame them there b/c i definantly do, my tuner said one big thing holding me back was those damn 2.73s. Im hoping to have gears and stall all at the same time but i can still run it with 2.73s right??? or should i go gears first then stall??

2.73's would be okay. The stall will feel really loose but performance wise your not missing out on a whole lot because of the shift extension associated with the stall.

The gears will make it feel tighter around town but some point you will have to do them. I'm getting close to that point now.
