Default Need help deciding stall size...

well first of my car is a daily driver for now with the mods listed...my tranny isnt doing so well so i'm decing to buy a new tranny with either the 3500 or 4000 stall...my mods are listed..except pacesetter lt header with ory-pipe, that i will soo be putting in..and then 3:73 gears soon..but they are 2.73 for now....but anyways i have the tci in now and never driven a stalled car until i put that stall converter in..and it was ok until it started crapping out on me..but it seemed kinda loose..not sure if that was due to the tranny going..or if that was just how it drove..so i guess whats everyones take on stall size with these mods and experience of daily driven stalled cars...do you guys think go big or go home, or what..anyways thanks for the help..it'll deffinitly be appreciated

i had 3.73's and a yank ss3600 w/bolt ons and the car hauled.. fairly tight converter for streetability, especially with the 3.73's.. Animal when you lay on it to.

I would expect a 2.73 geared car to be loose with a TCI 3800 Stall. I had 2.73's and a Yank TT3000 and it was a bit too loose for me. Once you replace the gears with 3.73's, that will tighen things up a little bit. The old saying go big or go home doesn't apply here. In torque converters, there is a such thing as too big. My current TC is a Yank SS4000 and I have 3.73's. This a tight set up and it a lot better than my TT3000/2.73 gears. With your mods, the SS3600 would be a good choice.

so do you think going with the 4000 stall size would be good due to in the near furute i'll be putting 373 gears in? The transmission comes with either 3500 or 4000...thats why i'm asking...
thanks

The 4000 stall will be worse with 2.73's. Even when you upgrade to the 3.73's, the 3500 or 4000 stall will be fine. A 3500 is a nice street TC and you cannot go wrong there.

I vote 4K. I had a 3500 and liked it, but I wanted more and I love the SS4000, even with my 3.23's. If I swap in the future, it will be a PT4400 with 3.73's.

I've been thinking about an SS3600 or something around that size, but I too have 2.73's. I was planning on keeping these gears for awhile. Should I look into replacing the gears too when I do the stall? Or will the 2.73's be fine for the time being until I can replace the gears?

SS 3200 or 3600 would be a good choice.
