Stuck in Third gear?
Okay guys I am having a few problems with the trans in my rx7 conversion.
The unit feels like it takes off in third gear and will not shift at all, if I down **** it at a stop light it will shift into second then I can shift it back up to third. We scanned the pcm and for some reason it will to talk to the trans or even show a code for the transmission. Does a 4l60e default to a 3 gear if the trans functions are not working correctly?
When I had the pcm sent out last year I think I may have been going to use my manual valve body trans and am wondering if the pcm is set in a 6 speed mode or the trans controls are shut off (is that even possible?)
This is a 99 4l60e I do have a code for ac alternator l terminal voltage and the fan 2 relay.
Does a 4l60e default to a gear and work in that gear only if pcm controls are shut down to it?
Thanks
Elec

Mine was doing this and i had it checked for codes and did se a 0757 code which meant the trans was putting itself in limp mode due to loose converter or stuck solonoid. (had solonoids replaced with no success). I then had the codes deleted and the computer reprogrammed.

Can you manually shift it into 1st, 2nd and 3rd? If so its probaly in limp mode always in 3rd gear. If its an M6 PCM chances are it won't work with a A4 but I'm not totally sure because of the nature of your conversion. I'm sure someones got to know more.

The trans can be down shifted into second when rolling and up to third but always starts in third. Does the transmission get power from a fused source and then are the solenoids controlled by a negative trigger via the ecm? Maybe I missed a power source for the trans?

yes the trans solenoids are powered by a fuse and the pcm grounds the solenoids to activate them, so check and make sure you have power to the trans when the key is on
