4L60 Removal/Install
Hey Guys, I need some info! I will be removing my busted 4L60 this weekend and just need to know what to expect. I have done several tranmissions in the past but never in a Camaro. My main concern is getting the top bolt out. Is it necessary to drop the front member or will it be accessible from the bottom with engine tilt? I want to make sure that I know what I am up against.. I did a search but there were no threads that I could find on this. Anything is GREATLY appreciated!

The hardest for me is the top two bolts if I am on my back. I just put a new trans in my car last month but used a lift this time, and it was very easy to get to those bolts. Just need a long extension and a swivel

There is a damn good install link I used ,but I can't remember what it was I look to see if I still have to saved..... It's been used by several people here, so if I can' find it do a search and i'm shure it will turn up.
if you do find that link could ya pm it to me?

It is a lot easier to get to the top bolts if you go ahead and take the trans cross member loose and let it hang down with the support of a jack under it. that will give you a lot more room to work with. After you do that get a flash light and a long extension and go to work...............................While you have the trans out spend about 6 bucks and get some fittings to make some quick connections where the cooler lines come down and flatten out. I did that the first time I took mine out. now I don't have to worry about messing with the e-clips any more.

Do they drop the entire engine and trans together at the dealer? I used to BMA bending splines and busting knuckles until I did it on another car. It's actually seemed like less work in those days of no AC and plumbing -- however it is an idea.

I expected the top bolts to be a PITA, but I just lowered the trans, grabbed every extension I own, a universal, and an air gun. 90 psi. Came right out... same with the bellhousing bolts. They didn't fight compressed air.
I also used this link that was posted above:http://modernmusclecars.net/forums/a...p?do=tcinstall
Good luck, it's not that bad...

yeah they are easy with a lift. One of the top is actually left out. The allen bolts on the flywheel are temperamental so be careful not to strip them! Take the starter out. Take the lines of via the little compression style rings. Do not mess with the exhaust...not needed. Good luck dude!
