Default Vig3600 that inefficient?

Well, yesterday I went back to the place where I had originally dynoed my car showroom stock. Back in Sept. 15, 2001 it dynoed 312hp/319tq, now after the mods it dynoed 312hp/334tq. My torque graph starts out at 330 @ 4500 rpms and then goes down at a steady rate to 275 @ 6000 rpms. Although my horsepower goes from 280 @ 4500 steadily climbing to 310 @ 6000 rpms. This is the print out of my best run, HP and TQ values are corrected (CR = 1.03):

 • rpms__ HP __ TQ

 • 4100__207.5__265.8

 • 4350__274.9__331.9

 • 4600__290.3__331.4

 • 4850__295.2__319.7

 • 5100__290.6__299.2

 • 5350__301.1__295.6

 • 5600__305.3__286.3

 • 5850__308.0__276.5

 • 6100__310.0__266.9

 • 6350__308.3__255.0

You can also see the actual dyno graph here.
I am thinking of changing to a Yank (or more efficient converter), either SY4000 or a TP4000, what are your thoughts? Preferrably something that acts like my Vig3600, but pulls better on top.

Go to the track and see what it runs. Dynos don't count for much. They are for tuning and bragging rights.

I ran low 12s with less than 320HP and Raughhammer was in the mid 11s with about 325 HP.

If you want to switch, The YTP 4000 is your choice. Very efficent and a good bottom end hit. SY 4000 is best for badly prepped tracks.

i only showed 277hp and 300tq with mine with all bolt ons Bascially they never could dyno the sucker right.. but dynos mean squat... run it at the track and you will be more than happy..

i swear by mine.. price vs perf you cant beat it!!

11's NA(stock) isnt bad for 277hp is it??

Oh guys, don't get me wrong ... this Vig has proven itself at the track (see my sig), even at my terrible high elevation/desert track. I know dyno numbers mean didly ... but I just expected more. Maybe around the lines of 320hp and an astounding 350tq (based on how it feels). But as I said this thing pulls great at the track. If I can find a deal on a TP4000, I might jump on it. Of course that might have to wait until I get my home computer back up and running.

Oh, as for my times (best three, the rest are on my site):
Density Altitude = 4157'
ET @ MPH, 60' (On 26x10.5x16 ET Streets)
12.973 @ 103.341, 1.741
12.965 @ 103.754, 1.808
12.897 @ 104.358, 1.792

Torque converters aren't meant to give you nice dyno #'s. They're meant to give you nice 60's and ET's! I dynoed 315 RWHP with all the bolt-ons and a Vig 3200, and it was good for a 12.04 @ 111 MPH with a 1.66 60' and 3,515# raceweight. It doesn't take a ton of power to make an A4 run well. The torque converter is the only part that I know of that will net .5 (or more many times) reduction in the 1/4-mile with no sign of HP on the dyno. This is why the dyno should only be used as a tuning tool.

Take it to the track with some sticky tires, and I bet you'll be happy with your Vig 3600.

Trevor

and it plain out sucks when you give it too much power... with my h&c and nitrous it stalls over 6000... and racing from a roll sucks

IMO, the TP4200 would be best for you (that Vig 3600 actually stalls to about 4300, btw.)

The SY4000 will not give you the starting line hit that the Vig or the TP will but it would be an excellent from a roll converter. The TP will give you the same hit (or better) that the Vig gives plus it will be an excellent from a roll converter. Expect your unlocked dyno numbers to take a nice jump.
