Default My transmission disengages completely

Ok, on my way home from work, I do the on-ramp launch up to 80mph for the merge, no biggee. I know somethings wrong when I let of the gas and my RPMs drop towards idle. I thought she had shutdown in the middle of traffic. A little pressure on the gas peddle assured me she hadnt. It was like I had shifted into neutral. Only when my speed started coming down and I added gas and the two met up (55mph coincided with 2500 RPM ) did the transmission engage. There is zero dynamic braking. I let off the gas, the RPMs drop to idle. I set my cruise at 55 to limit how many times I made the two meet back up and nursed her home.

When I got home, I checked reverse, it works, I checked the fluid level, looks fine.

I havent been able to find a thread that mentions this.

Thanks for any help

If you are talking about a 4L60E they only have limited drag in the overdrive position since the input sprag freewheels on decel so car will return close to idle under certain conditions particularly if the converter is unlocked. Do you have all normal upshifting gears etc lockup ?

I'll call you when I get home. I am still at work as we are taking on fuel...expect the call around 9pm.

Does it shift through the gears when you drive it around? If so, are the shifts harsh or does it rev up and not move or barely move.

I can come over tomorrow. Ya never know... now may be the time to get yourself a badass tranny and converter. ...from Performabuilt transmissions, of course.

Jason,

Post up the same info you told me in your PM. Maybe Performabuilt can give you more feedback.

...and no...don't drive it to work with only 1st and 2nd.

I took it out on the ground roads and it wont shift into 3rd. Theres an audible change when it normally would shift, but it stays in 2nd. 1st and 2nd shift normal. Not going into 3rd might explain why it felt very different when I let off the gas out on the freeway. None of the dynamic braking of third before it shifts down.

But it does not feel like its going to neutral where the 2-3 shift should occur? And have you scanned for codes or do you have a scanner or tuner ? the neutral feel if it happens on the 2-3 shift is actually a return to first and if you rev high the car will go as you said once the engine catches up with the trans, If this is the case you have a failed 3-4 clutch and will need and unit or a rebuild

I mis-illustrated that. Nix the putting it in neutral. It stays in 2nd and RPM coincides with the speed. It sounds like it tries for 3rd but never makes it. As for scanning, Fratsit has the scanner. I'll post codes if there are any.

Some people prefer it that way. With my shift kit I would really prefer it to free wheel and just roll, without engine braking. I can't do that right now, but I will get it tuned to.

In your case it sounds like a 3-4 clutch pack failure...

After a bit of a mess, the b solenoid was the problem. Not too much in the way of replacing it, kinda fun actually. Threw in a new filter, buttoned it up and drove it around the neighborhood, it shifted correctly and after the next start up, my check engine light went out.

Doing my on ramp launch for a merge into traffic this morning, no problems. No leaks for the past few days either.

Thanks a ****ton for the assistance
