Default People with stalls, are you using a shift kit?

I am installing a Yank SS3600 soon, along with a transcooler, and a deeper pan. Is a shift kit necessary, or will a tune take care of the firming up of the shifts? I have done a little research, and haven't found a decisive answer on this. What are your guys ideas or suggestions on this.

Jeff

Shift kits are nice vastly improve the feel and can when installed correctly improve the life of the trans , But are not a requirement

I just had a 3200 Vig installed along with a cooler, Trans Go Level 2 kit, new aluminum accumulator pistons, 2nd & 4th Super servo apply pistons, filter kit, Trans Go spacer plate, gaskets, 2-4 servo apply pin and fluid. Shifts so hard now its almost anoying. I cant wait to take it to the track and see what it does. I'm going back for a Dyno Tune next month when the funds are available!!

Like others are saying its not a requirement but I personally I would rather have the shift kit rather then raise the line pressure on the transmission through the computer.

The converter will render your shifts soft and subtle, so if you like a crisp shift, a shift kit is for you. Some tranny tuning will be of benefit to you - like reducing shift times, but a shift kit will give you mechanical improvements that tuning can't deliver - like increased fluid circulation, stronger accumulation, more positive lock-up, etc. Personally, I wouldn't have a converter without one.

I knew I was going to put a converter in so I installed the shift kit first. It shifted really firm and was pretty cool without the converter. Once I put the SS3600 in it made the shifts feel like stock again just driving around normally but if you get on it they are hard. I don't know how firm they are down low but the fourth shift is very firm. I would deffinately do the shift kit if I was you.

When I had my tranny rebuilt I had a shift kit put in along with the higher stall. Keeps everything nice and crisp.

Shift kit all the way. Unless I can knock a can out of the cupholder on the 1-2 shift at wot it's not firm enough.

I put a shift kit in with my vig 3200 too. It shifts pretty nice, wish it shifted a little harder at times

I have the TransGo HD2 with the valve body mods. It is smooth as stock during normal driving, but hits nicely when it needs to. For my turbo, it was a must have, since the stock trans was slipping when getting on it with the turbo's extra power.

I installed my stall and trans cooler first. Ran it a few hundred miles and it still hit the rev limited. Installed the Transgo Stage2 and it shifts alot crisper and faster without hitting the rev limiter. Couldn't be happier with the performance.
