Default 3-4 Shift Flare?

My buddy just got a Transgo shift kit installed. 1-2 and 2-3 shifts are normal, but 3-4 goes like grab-slip-grab-hold. Any ideas as to what could be causing this?

No - I know what you're talking about and that's not it. It's like the band doesn't hold at first - slips and then finally engages. The installer thinks that the 4th gear accumulator spring may be weak. I was thinking maybe something was done incorrectly to the 4th gear servo??

well actually if the 4th gea spring was installed as the transgo kit shows it shouldnt matter weak or not its upside down and allready full of fuild so it effectivley not and accumulator any more . There could be excesive clearance for the fourth servo .Is it the stock servo ?

Yes, stock servo. I don't have a set of instructions in front of me, but I know there are a couple of shims or something in there that are changed out.

3-4 feed hole is too big. Get a new separator plate and drill it to the next to the biggest size recommended in the kit instead of the biggest. 3-4 flair is almost always caused by this. Hope this helps.....

Well, we did have it drilled out according to the Pro-Built specs, which calls for extra big feed holes. This set-up worked great on my converter - but maybe not for his.
