Need advice on 4L65E
Hey guys, curious on how the 4L65Es hold up because a friend of mine is selling his for 600 including the stock converter minus the tailshaft and bellhousing, is this a decent price?? came out of a 2006 GTO with 15k miles.
can these trannies hold a lot more than the 4L60E? i am planning on having 500 whp but with a stock converter and trans cooler.

Differences are the front support, sun shell, front and rear planets (5 pinion instead of 4) 7 disc 3-4 clutch setup instead of 6, and a hardened output shaft. I think the front support and hardened output shaft are worthwhile upgrades, while the 5 pinion planet is questionable as an "upgrade" and the 3-4 clutch pack is usually upgraded in either unit anyway. Basically since the upgrades are minimal, in stock form I don't think it is "a lot" stronger.

That is and excellent price for a good used unit with milage than low

One other thing I forgot to mention is the boost valve sleeve in the '05-later units is shorter, therefore the aftermarket .490" and .500" valves aren't a direct fit in the pumps. The sleeve would have to be machined down.
Performabuilt is right, that is a decent price for a low mileage unit!

No you do not need to open it up , what hes mentioning is a mod you have to do if you want to install and aftermarket boost valve. Too just use it you only need to put it in as is,
