Default shifting issue

ok, so my trans had been working fine, then it quit locking up.. so i bought a new lockup solenoid and replaced the 3 - 2 solenoid also. when i put everything back together, it didnt have first gear. so i took it back apart and put the 3 - 2 solenoid that was in there to start off with back in it. it still dosent have first.

when i was moving in second gear at a walking pace, i pulled it down into first and it felt like hitting the brakes. all other shifts work fine...

Well if the other shifts are fine I can tell you that it sounds like the 2-4 band is always applied for some reason , Basically he second clutch oil is always being fed to the 2nd servo , This wouldnt affect other gears but with the work you did I dont see how it would cause this problem unless some trash got in there and stuck a valve .The braking affect in Man 1 is why I say the band is allways applied

would a bad 3-2 servo cause the band to always to apply like you said? when i put the new 3-2 in it didnt want to go in, and i had to kinda force the connector into the 3-2 new servo... im thinking that it might have messed up the connector, would have make it apply the 2-4 band all the time?

What year is your car? Also did you replace it with exactly the same solenoid that was removed?

That is a posibility I didnt cosider if you put the wrong solenoid in there you may have damaged the PCM.

Also you could have a broken 3-2 control valve spring. Just a thought. Vince

the solonoid looked the same from the outside.. but i was told at the parts store that there are 2 diffrent solonoids that are available. i got the cheaper of the two. my car, the wiring harness and computer are 2000, the transmission is a 2001, and all the internals of the trans are 2001. it has a transgo shift kit. it just had a little difficulty plugging the sensor in. so i may have smashed where the plug goes into the sensor..tomorrow i belive im going to check the wires.. how do i check the output of the wires? i will check the spring and the piston while im in there.

i really appreciate your help guys..

Sound like a tuning issue with the converter clutch either set to duty cycle near 100 percent or mechanically eliminate PWM
