Billet or Corvette Servo.... really worth it?
Was going to install one with the transgo and tranny cooler in a week or so. Just wondering if I should throw the servo on the list. 25 bucks or so? What does it do? Just help the 1-2 shift or all the shifts?

The Corvette servo will do in most instances, but if you go with a larger servo, do not use the billet as it can be very hard on the stock 2-4 band anchors, and produces very harsh 1-2 part throttle shifts in most cases. The 2nd gear servo from Sonnax has the cushion springs like the Corvette servo, and is much easier on the geartrain. The feed hole size and accumulation must be matched to get the best results from this setup. I have used the different apply servos over the years, and have not liked the billet 2nd gear servo for the reasons mentioned above.

just use the vette servo and put 2 accumulator pistons in the 1-2 accum promise you that you will have all the 1-2 shift you need oh and turn the torx screw on the back of the EPC 1/4 turn clockwise....but do not do this with the better than sex servos i you do lets just go ahead and say i told you so....you could also put a cylinder head valve spring in the 1-2 accum also it works good to....easy decision for you 8.00 servo 3 dollar extra accum piston or free spring...trust me you will have a neck jerking 1-2

While a "neck jerking" 1-2 shift is a stinking blast it can be very detrimental to the longevity of the unit if it has not been upgraded! The stock band anchors are a significant weak spot for sure, not to mention the wear and tear on the drum.
A Sonnax servo is a good upgrade, defiantely produces a very quick, firm shift. But I think you will find that many builders who have experience with this unit will also tell you that a stock Corvette servo can and will provide a firm shift that when coupled with the right internals is very comparable to the aftermarket billet servos.
Based on the power levels in your sig you should be just fine either way you go. If you modify your engine later, you would probably want the upgrade then if nothing else... food for thought.

if you have a 98-02 LS1 A4 f-body, you already have a corvette servo. swapping to one won't do anything since they came STOCK. corvette servo = wasted money. either get the sonnax servo or leave it alone.

Well, i'll dig this back up from 5yrs ago! Has anything changed? Im looking into the transgo hd2 shift kit, wondering on the stock vette servo or a good billet one? Do t wanna stick tons into this trans either. Upgrading a all stock 4l60e with cooler n ss3600 yank.

While you are installing the HD2, the Sonnax HD 2-3 shift valve is highly recommended as it reduces the load on the forward sprag; with this part you should drag race in [D3]. (Without it you should drag race in [OD]).
Here is a closely related thread:

IMO, based on the threads here, you are much more likely to wear out the 3/4 clutch, break the forward sprag or break the output shaft than wear out the band because you don't have a billet servo.
