I'M about to lose my mind now. I just purchased a b&m deep trans pan for my camaro, and here is the problem that im having: Since i have a deeper pan, the neck on the filter needs to be extended, so b&m supply you with an aluminum extender that plugs in the hole where you would normally stick the filter in, and the filter gets plugs to the other end of the aluminum neck. Overall it extends it about 1 1/2 inchs deeper into the pan. How do I know if the aluminum neck is all the way into the transmission? When I stuck the neck into the tranny, with the filter attached, it seemed like it was loose. Next problem: B&M also supplys you with a little bracket to hold the filter. I cant understand how to mount it. The instructions say " remove this bolt out of the valve body, place the bracket over the hole, re-insert the bolt, and tighten down. I was looking at their picture, mounted this bracket, tighted down the bolt, re-installed the filter assembly, now with this braket it on, the filter wont go back in WHAT AM I DOING WRONG Any help please, thank you

It`s deeper but that just means there`s more fluid, not that the fluid level is lower.. know what I mean? The filter will still be drowning in fluid .. the extra space gets taken up by extra fluid. Just forget about the stupid thing is what I`d do.

Even pulling high G's in a turn, I would think the filter in stock position would still be completely immersed in fluid.

That seal on the filter is such a pain in the *** to replace <img border="0" alt="[fight]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_punch.gif" /> , that I would not like to do anything that required me to do that again <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" />

What truck pan are you running, and how much deeper is it - clearance issues, fluid capacity, etc.

If what you people are saying is true, why would B&M include this neck extender then? Why would i need to lower the height of my filter?

I wonder if the longer truck filter wouldn't do just as well/better than the extender,being as how the trucks have deeper pans?

 

New ls1. i have the same pan now for a year. in the picture where you attatch the xtension tube, i did not bolt it to where they show. i simply laid it out to where it seemed logical and bolted it down to closest bolt. yes it fits loose but it wont fall out wonce the pan is in place. hope tis helps out.

 

i just put a truck pan on the other day. the filter doesnt really look longer/closer to the bottom of the pan. the plastic housing that the filter sits in looks a little thicker though. <shrug>

Did you compare the stock vs truck filter lengths?
