My car will not 60 at all with my converter is it wrong for my ap?
Okay guys I am fighting with me car to get it to 60 Foot worth a darn.
The car has a vig 4k stall and the best I have ever seen it do is a 1.79 60 before and after my cam swap. The car feels stock like when at stop lights and will flash to 4k with out a problem. I am begining to wonder if a converter can be to tight?
At the track the car feels great out of the hole pulls nice and clean in first and second then falls on it's face during the 3-4 shift as if it is getting lugged down way to far (like it's hooked to a trailer).
The car last year on a good night with cool weather went 12.60 after the cam swap this year the best the car has run in cool weather is 12.40 but in normal weather is a consitent 12.59 car... So my questions are:
How do you guys launch the car at the track? Foot braking it heavy against the converter or smash it from a idle?
Can you read shift extensions to see how tight a converter is?
Why is my car not going as fast as I want it to?
Here are the specs
ls6 intake
Ported tb
cam 238/242 .595/5.95 114
4k stall vig
3.23 gear
15x10 prostars with mickey t's and skinnys
longtubes
2otl
lid
all the bolt ons yada yyada...
Any help would be great!

I would suggest the gearing is the issue. A 3.23 is not / will not allow you to produce a good 60' time with a cam only car. Going to a 3.73 will help. Are the tires spinning, is it hooking well?
Any converter that allows you to leave at or around 4k RPM is not going to contribute to a poor 60"... generally speaking of course. In fact, it might be taking your engine way too deep into it's power curve too fast, but that's a question for your engine tuner.
Good Luck

I know TCI converters are big pieces of ****, but when I switched from my VIG3800 to my TCI4400 the converter felt TIGHTER, and the car went 2 tenths faster! I would consider a different converter (YANK) if I were you. I will be switching to a PT4400 next year.

What size slicks are you running? I cut 1.70s with a 26" drag radial and 3.23s. I agree that it is probably in the rear gear though. 3.73s are the way to go. Do you unhook your front sway bar at the track? The cam you are running has alot of duration and lsa. It probably killed some of your low end torque on the motor. Is your trap speed up from last year?

Hmm..don't really know what going on with your car..I Run 3.42's and had a vig 3800 & pulled 1.66 60fts on MT ET Street drag radials. maybe you are spinning & can't feel it? are you running at altitude? I usually get about 1.7-1.8's at about 4500ft Dense altitude

The car does not feel like it is spining much but you can hear it scratch when shiffting into second. If I stand hard against the converter and launch it at around 3k it just spind the tires. The car is on a mickey t Et drag radial.
The car is only traping 108 when last year it did 105's. I am starting to wonder if the cam has killed so much torque down low that the car just is not capable of pulling a good 60... The car does have the front sway bar removed and I just replaced all the engine and trans mounts with poly units as stock units were wore out pretty bad. The car struggles so hard up top and feels so slow on the top end.
I am confused with this one, the car is doing 85mph by the 8th mile also...

I had 3:23's back in the day with just headers and my 4K fuddle stall.. I was netting 1.6X 60's all day. So, it can be done with the gears..
I mash the break as hard as I can and rev it up as much as I can, I found thats what works best for me.
N/A I can get 1.5X 60's all day long.
On the juice, the only track pass to date, was a 1.45 60'...
This is all on a stock 16" TA wheel with a 255/50/16 MT DR at ~17 psi.

When I stand on the brake and pull the car up against the converter heavy it just spins the tires. Maybe it's time for a new tire.... I always do a decent burnout on then and this week ran then at 17 psi. I wonder if they would respond to a smaller bunout and more air pressure.

try not to stand on it to hard if ur launching at 3k and spining then its time to launch lower....i learned that last friday...I used to launch 2700 on DR's on the street went to the track on MT DR's and couldnt launch much over 1500rpm.

If you add more pressure, its going to get worse...
What do you have the shift points at? Have you had the car tuned and on a dyno (to see your A/F and graph).
Also, maybe get some LCA relo brackets put on as well, I know those helped me alot with traction and some wheel hop issues.
You racing at CFR? If so, that track has a nick name the "house of hook" so I think the track should be prepped pretty good.

Cordova, the car was tunned I will have to pull up the data log for shift points.
When the car spins it goes slow, but if I launch from idle the car cuts 1.79's and fells like it hooks fine.

Have you had your car on the Dyno? I am curious as to what kind of HP you have..I am at 335rw, I trap at about 109-110 with the LS6 cam at about 1500ft Altitude..About 103-104 at 4500 D/A..Your traps sound low..Something else is wrong besides the gears..your cam & converter should make up a little bit for the lack of gear..Or the converter & cam are mis-matched..To much cam for the verter or vise versa? I launch off Idle, try doing all different things to get it to 60'..I hear a lot of guys launching at 2300, might be the sweet spot. It could be those fat *** 15x10's you are running..doesn't that even raise the gear ratio more? You might be closer to a 2.73 with those tires & that ultimately could be the problem
