2000 c5 tranny change now immediate slip!
My car was running fine and have been doing routein mant. on it such as oil change ect... The book says that the tranny fluids need to be changed between 50k and 100k depending on how hot it is and what kind of conditions your vehicle is under. My car has 72k on it so i figured it was due up. I took it to the local lube place and they had a machine there they recommended. I let them do the tranny service. after i drove off, my transmission had a slight slip to it. i turned around and told them, they looked under the hood and then said well we put in the same amount we took out and nothing we did should cause it. Now i can not drive the car after i got it home and they are closed. the transmission just revs like its in neutral after 1st gear. Im guessing the bands in my tranny are out? anything they could have done wrong. this was not an issue when i brought it in. the car was shifting very firm and clean and now it shifts with a slip and then looses all grip and just revs up.

well this happens alot with a flush....what was the condition of the fluid that they took out...what normally happens is if the tranny fluid has never been changed and it was brown or black it could have had a varnish buildup and the shift valves could have been worn out becuase of the contaminants.....now while the old fluid is in it the varnish takes up the space that has been worn out on the shift valve but when you get a cleaninhg and a shot of new fluid guess what the shift valve now has too much clearance and you get a slip.....this is just the normal thing however there could be other probs could just be a coincidence but by doing the flush there is nothing they could have done to hurt it unless they left a line loose and you have no fluid of its not at the right level the machine is supposed to put in what it takes out...
I would definatly check the fluid level but other than that theres reall nothing they coud have done to cause it. But I have see this happen several times with high milage cars.

What sort of usage has it seen? If it has not been serviced, and if it has been used to tow then it is highly possible that there was debris in the fluid that was aiding the performance prior to the flush.
Did they replace the filter as well? It may have debris in it that is clogging it up. Just an observation.
My '03 Dodge owners manual suggested the first tranny service at like 90k miles !!!!! Holy crap. There is nothing in transmission manufacturing that has improved the durability of the unit... it still makes deris, that's why there is a filter. It still builds heat that brakes down the fluid... regardless of the owners manual recommendations it is smart to change the fluid and filter every 20k-30k miles.

My service code was for a sylinoid stuck off. I think the service the quick lube preformed forced dirt and **** through my tranny causing it to deteriorate quickly. I took it strait back and they didnt even check the fluid! Just said nothing we could have done. Kinda ironic how the transmission is shifting fine and i take it in and immediately it doesnt work after their service.

Well it is possible that during the service that trash was dislodged and restricted the solenoid. This would not actually be there fault its a risk of having the trans flushed at high milage, I have seen it happen quite a few times. You could try changing the solenoid and see what happens I would probably change both shift solenids and the PCS before I did anything.

Hey thanks performabuilt. I wish you were a lot closer because i have read through plenty of forums and you seem top notch. Im actually going to have the entire tranny rebuilt. Seems it wasn't topped off with ATF causing high temps which lead to fast deterioration. They claimed that it wasnt possible because the machine only takes out what it puts in but i recall a kid hosing off my enging compartment with a water bucket when i walked out to the shop area. Spill? besides the point, Are there any thing i should do now while the tranny is out and about to be rebuilt? I was told to have them use a zpack, sun shell and have it drilled, a shift kit and that was it. I will fill with a synthetic fluid and thought about lucas addative. any suggestions are greatly appreciated and thank you in advance for all your help!

I would install the transgo SK kit or the superior shift kit. Good luck on the ZPACK they are not available right now unless someone just has some laying around. I would go with the alto power pack or at the very least the late high energy third frictions if you cant get a ZPACK.
Oh and thanks for the compliment

Transgo is what i will order. I will be doing a lot of in town driving so i dont want anything to harsh but i plan on taking it to th strip so i want to do the build right the first time. What shift kit would you recomend for that application? Hope this guy can get the zpack. He said he was going to order it on monday. would you go with the alto over the zpack or only if zpack was not avalible? would you recommend usuing the lucas stuff as a preventative? I usued it one time in my 93 z after the tranny started to slip and it lasted 2 years with no problems. I sold it after that so not sure how long it really lasted. Thank you for all your help. I have learned a lot about auto trannys in the last few days. They say knowledge rules!

No on the lucas in a new trans! And I consider the ZPACK and the POWER PACK pretty much equal. I like the Z pack because for the purposes of assembly its easier at least for me to get a proper 3-4 clearance without having to spend so much time playin with snap rings and top plates. But either will serve you well as I have used both in some very high HP aplications. The transgo kit is very good but can be a little edious to instal the superior kit works well to and is easier if your doing it yourself. When you get there call or PM me and ill give you a few tips on the transgo if you go that route. Good luck in your endevor.
