Default 4l80e question....opinions needed

Last year in my 2000 z/28(408 car) I swapped my stock 4l60e for a th400 w/3600 stall, then swapped the th400 for a t-56 cause I hate the th400's highway manners(or lack of...4000rpm@65mph). Now Ive sold the t-56 and Im now looking at putting a 4l80e in. Ive still got my factory 4l60e harness so with the 4l80e adapter it will be no problem to wire in. I wanted to know what the people that run a 4l80e think about theirs. In my opinion Ill have the best of both worlds... low cruising rpm's, and killer track times/strength. Just wondered if they were worth switching to or if they had a down side? Help me out, thanks.

The only down side to a 4L80E is that it is a heavy transmission . Like it's baby brother the TH400 it is heavy duty , in fact it shares the same basic gear train . Plus it has the benefit of a .75:1 od ratio , and a lockup torque converter !! Will make a great combo !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! John

Thats what I was thinking. The weight doesnt bother me...the nitrous will make up the difference! Thanks for the input.

As John mentioned a 4L80E is an excellent upgrade when considering a heavy duty transmission!

We build and install them often! They can take a beating and give years of service.

and to think, everyone thought i was crazy 4 years ago when i did the 80. haha
My how times have changed. I have done several others now, and everyone that changes from a 400 LOVES the 80........ for people coming from a manual trans, "WOW, i added 100lbs and still picked up .5 sec on the et".......LOL

Do the conversion correctly, and you will never look back!!!!!

Let me know if you have any specific questions or need help.
