Default Stalled Guys: Do you stall or flash?

i recently got rid of my vig3200 when i took my motor out and I bought a tci 3500 stall from a fellow member. When i had my vig3200 i was able to foot brake it up to 2800rpm, now with this 3500 i can barely get over 2600rpm out of it! At the track with the 3200 i was luanching at around 2200rpm-2500rpm and was cutting 1.7 all day. This time around, with the tci 3500 i was cutting 2.0 and worse! Im thinking that maybe it has to do with my M/T drag radials being worn down? becuase when they were new when i had my old 3200, i was hitting the 1.7 60ft. Also.....Im just thinking that maybe this converter is different. Maybe this converter is a converter that needs to be flashed at the line instead of being stalled?

Besides those concerns of mine, im just wanting to know how you guys luanch (stalled or flashing) and why? and if you stall, how high do you stall? thanks.

Tranny doesnt feel bad to me, feels like its always been. My cousin who had a high stalled ws6 has been through two trannies and i know how it feels before your tranny gives up on you. The shifting is slow, it slips, and you end up losing a gear or two. I dont feel any of that.

With my SS3800, I usually stall to about 2500 and go WOT. I can't stall much more because the tranny will upshift to second gear on its own if I stage for too long. I don't have a problem running 1.6X 60's on MTs and manifolds. Are you spinning the tires or is it biting?

i stall.

but you down graded dude, going from a Vig 3200 to a TCi 3500. the vigs are underrated and the 3200 is actually more like a 3600 on a LS1 car. that is why it footbraked higher than the tcI. i wouldnt have switched stalls

I get my best 60 fts from flashing. i bring up slightly from idle and then let her rip. 1.6x - 1.7x all day long.

With my Vig 3800 I would take off at idle..best 60' was 1.66 all day long at famoso..I recently went with a SS4000 Yank & I am having traction problems now, tried stalling & Idle, full tank of gas, still spun..Just installed the Spohn Torque Arm, I will find out next weekend at LACR if this thing works. I like to launch at idle to be more consistant when i bracket race.

I foot brake mine at 1200-1500 and I get 1.8-2.0 60 ft on 18" wheels/street tires. I tried to flash mine a few times and all it did was spinning 1st and 2nd. I'm sure my 2.5 STR didn't help those launches. Gotta get a better rear and stickier tires.

So by flashing, that means to just romp on it right off the line at a close to idle RPM??? ive never tried it that way becuase i always thought that if i did that, it would just shock the tires and make them spin real bad off the line

this is why i dont, because i have a 2.6STR. i also like that fact that i'm not stressing the driveline or 10-bolt as hard as a blunt throttle smash, but rather preloading everything from getting slapped so hard.

you are right, you are preloading the drivetrain for acceleration, but you are also creating a lot of heat when you are on the brake while revving. i just thought that heat alone would be a no-no for the tranny. i guess if its only for a second or two, no big deal.

Yep, I'm only on it for less than 3 secs as the tree lights down to green.

LOL!!! I'm sorry, but that is the stupidest thing I 've ever heard! Please explain to me how the trans upshifts while you are staged.

Damn, i always thought that the benefit of having a higher stall converter was so you could luanch at that higher rpm, along with the shifts in the power band.....guess i was wrong about the launching part

Yank SS3200 re-stalled to 3600 by Forced Technology, works best from about 1300rpm. If I'm bracket racing I flash it off idle, it's much more consistent that way as far as r/t goes.
