Default 4l80 TC lockup with Transgo full manual kit

Hey guys,

I took one of the TCI Full manual kits (4l80-3 i think is part number) to the guy who does my transmissions to have put in my 4l80. I picked it up yesterday and he said that no where is the instructions did it mention anything about how to engage the torque converter lockup with that kit. Anyone use this kit, and if so do you lose lockup or am i missing something?

I wont have it in the car for another week or two, so im trying to figure out what i should expect.

The TransGo 4L80E-3 kit will function with converter lockup.
The PWM solenoid life gets shortened. You can install a ballast resistor on the power supply side to extend it's life and I would suggest switching it on the ground side as the stock PCM does.

I've heard the manual 4l80e's are tough on the downshift and use alot of engine breaking. Any other input on this?

You should only downshift an automatic trans once the roadspeed is low enough that the downshift will not result in rpm above the stall speed.

A decel downshift is rough on any auto trans. They are designed to make upshifts under throttle and downshifts at low speeds or while accelerating.

The sprags are loaded differently when you are coasting down or decelerating.

You can use the load resistor to exstent the solenoidlife as mentioned and in addition there are several companies that make lockup kits that are speed based for the 700r4 and 2004r transmissions using vehical speed/vaccum and a brake switch , These can be easily refited to turn the lockup off and on automatically when just cruising around so you are not always having to remember to turn it off and on. then have a switch to turn off when you are racing so it wont come on going down the track
