Is a 700-r4 the same as a 4l60e???

Is a 700-r4 the same as a 4l60e??? are the dimentions the same... a local trans shop said that they are and that I could fit one into my c5 vette with some mods to the trans case.. is this true???..
Mods are:
1. cut the bellhousing off of the 4l60e
2. call an adaptor company(forgot the name) that sells an adaptor plate that will allow the swap..
is it possible???

Anything is possible , The trans are nearly identical dimesionally and mechanically.

... how much can a 700-r4 handle power wise????
A 700R4 and a 4L60E have equal power handling , I personally would have gone with the 4l60e with the TRANSGO HD3 full manual kit

As far as I know you cannot get a reverse manual valve body for the 4l60e only the regular pattern
