WOT 2->3 shift issue
okay so heres the deal i tried it all. lowered my mph by 10 across the board and i still smacked the limiter. raised my mph by 10 still smacked the limiter. lowered my rpm and mph back to stock and still smacked the limiter. i was paying close attention and when the car is should be shifting and is on its way to smack the limiter i hear a shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh noise.
well the car would pass the set mph and set rpm each time and it would hit the limiter but before it started to make that horrible rev limiter noise it would make a shhhhhhhh noise similar to air being let out of a tire.
do you have a trans temp gauge on it. If not even with a cooler you can still smoke a tranny. I killed a rpm stage v in under 1200 miles because it was constantly running over 220. Do you have a tube and fin style cooler or a stacked plate style cooler. Stacked plate coolers dissapate the heat 100 times better than a tube and fin style. And where did you mount the cooler.
THe only reason I ask is because even though you had it rebuilt a year ago does not mean that you don't have mechanical issues.
Isn't your car a 94? I don't know alot about the older stuff but isn't still the older 4l60 and not the 4l60e??? I don't know if that makes a difference?
In would start with making sure the temp is ok.

well the car is a 94 which came with the 4l60e the 93 came with the 4l60. i do have a radiator style tranny filter mounted in front of my radiator. surprisingly enough i checked my logs and it ran in the 200 degree range on the first run and by the end was in the 220 range. on the second run it was in the 230s.
I cannot place the noise.
The temp concerns me. Is the auxillary cooler mounted in series with the radiator or is it stand alone? I recommend it to be in series with the radiator.
How high does your converter stall? I did not see that # in this thread, coulda missed it.
The temp condition could be caused by a inadequate cooling system. It could be caused by the converter and also could be caused by slippage inside the unit. Check the fluid conditon again as you have ran it hard since you last checked it.
I have to say I think your 3/4 clutches have excessive clearance, that could explain the heat and the poor shift timing.
Hope that helps,
g

could the tps sensor be causing shifting issues. my tps voltage is slightly high at idle .86 and reaches 4.57 during WOT. could this be causing my issues?
**nevermind this isn't that far off from normal. and i reach 100% at WOT.

Yes, your transmission is slipping at WOT on the 2-3 shift. If you set the shift point lower and the PCM is commanding 3rd gear at 5400 rpm and you are still hitting the limiter, then the transmission is dead... Its pretty simple, really.

okay so it appears that the tranny is fine as far as clutches, bands, and servos go. the problem seems to be valve body related. they are currently going over it to check for internal leaks and valve issues. will keep everyone updated.
I have the same WOT 2-3 shift problem.
98 Trans Am, had the problem before and after the rebuild. the tranny was rebuilt by a reputable local shop. I originally pulled the tranny for rebuild due 1-2 shift slipping and THOUGHT this issue would be fixed as well but I was wrong.
Fresh rebuild, tried it out right away leaving the shop and there the problem remained. The fella at the shop says it has to be in the tune. I suspect the previous owner of the car may have played around with a handheld programmer
I'm interested in seeing what you find out!

Im having the same issues as you guys, bought the ws6 and its having the same problems, cept its not only at the track its always at wot, sometimes if i let off the gas it goes but then shifts back down. Ordered a new computer hoping that may have something to do with it cause everyonce and a while power will completely shut off. Im hoping you have a answer to what the fix is so i can get mine done also, just put a beefed tranny in it and its doing it so... not trying to hijack your thread or anything.
i have the same issue on the 2-3 shift
but off the bottle runs perfect hard shifts just like when i got the tranny.
but wot on the jug 2-3 shift hits the limiter everytime
tranny is built
have a TCI 3600 stall on a 01 Z28
HERE IS A VID OF IT DOIN IT
in the vid i was on stock wheels and tires.i took the prostars of to see if it would still do it

the problem with mine went unsolved so they're building me a new unit with new hardparts. gotta love a warranty. they said sometimes the part of the case that meets the valve body can get damaged and leaking into other circuits. they have seen cases where even from the factory a case was not machined properly causing issues. mine never shifted 2>3 at the track from the day I got it.
