We have those in some of our highest horsepower applications. The only problem I see is the unit must be removd ant thoroughly disassembled and modifications be made that will enable it to take the punishment. Also, depending on the rear axle ratio it can be a bit of a leaning curve getting it our of 1st into 2nd...someitmes that happens rather fast.
Call me... we can get you the advice you need.

If it is a manually shifted automatic... meaning it has been programmed for no automatic upshifts or downshifts... it will leave in 2nd gear.
Hope that helps.

Second, when you do that you are leaving in a higher converter stall state. Which tends to build unnecessary heat.
It is not necessarily detrimental to the transmission mechanically.

What does this do to the life of the transmission?
The poor shifting habits, not really sure... but I am going to presume it cannot be healthy for the powertrain longterm... never met someone who did not shift the manual setups as they were designed.
As far as the manual valve body mods... in my experience it has improved the lifespan considerably in our highest horsepower vehicles that are using big power adders.

I wouldnt be afraid to do it in that circumstance. cant see how it oculd possibly hurt anything. it still has full line pressure. yes it will put more load on the eng. forcing it to work a little harder to move the car from a dead stop, but not like my car would be hurting for torque compared to any stock car. and it would be NO different (again, from what I can tell and Im no trans expert) then installing like a 2:42 rear axle ratio in a car instead of 3:42's. or, how bout, a powerglide trans with high 1st gear ratios.

The kit we use is a Trans-Go HD-3. It is very similar to the HD-2 kit. It will delete the PCS (which we do on all of our Level2 units) and includes all of the updated clutch pack return springs, valve body upgrades and other upgrades associated with the HD-2 kit. We charge an additional $150.00 for this upgrade when we are building the unit.
So... it is a bit of a convoluted answer but I would not recommend this stand alone modification as it can contribute to the early demise of your unit in short order without the additional upgrades... there is a reason you can only get it with the HD-3 complete kit.
Now, there are companies that sell just the valve body... I don't recommend that installation without the aforementioned upgrades. It is just not smart to spend the money for that and then have to build the unit afterwards.
If somebody came to me and said... "Eh, I don't care if my tranny fails afterwards, I want a Manual Valve body." I would charge them $400.00 for the installation of the components that make it a Manual shift unit. And there would be no warranty from me on the job, other than it would operate the way it was designed to the day it left!
Hope that helps guys.
