Default pulling tranny

I'm in the process of pulling the transmission and I've stripped two of the three allen head bolts. We've tried one of the sockets that bite the more you torque and we couldn't get a socket or wrench on it. Also tried vice grips, but they wouldn't stay on.

How can you pull the transmission without pulling the converter? I'm about ready to blow the damn thing up because I'm so frustrated with it.

You may have to remove the heads of the converter bolts . Your going to have to get it out of there anyway you look at it .

A torch, try to burn the heads off, but have a new flexplate handy.

Should have mentioned that its coming out for a t56 so the flexplate can be destroyed.

You can try a hammer and chisel on the head of the bolt at an angle. I'm not sure what your bolts are like but my Trans Am had Torx bolts, one of which I striped out. It probabley took less than 15 strikes with a hammer to get the bolt to loosen up enough to turn by hand. Just put the chisel slightly off center and hammer it loose.

So do you mean use like the corner of the chisel? To try and make the bolt rotate? Or just whacking the hell out of it?

Maybe a diagram could help?

Anyone else? I've also been told to try some left-handed drill bits on them.

Use the chisel to make the bolt spin. When you wack the chisel it will bite into the head a little bit and start to turn the bolt alittle each time you wack it until it loosens up. I have used this method may times and it always gets rounded bolts out for me. Let me try to take a picture of this bolt for you.

I just looked at my bolts closley for the first time since removing them and realized they stripped out because they are not infact torx but they are allen head. Damn I feel stupid. Anyway, you can tell by the chisel mark on the bolt head which direction I held the chisel.

place the chisel slightly off center to cause the bolt to start to spin. I used a screw driver to illustrate this.

Drill and an easy out would be your best bet.

I had the same problem...wish I wouldn've asked before I knew they had that much loctite on them.

If you heat them before you touch the converter bolts, they come out really easily. I couldn't get mine to budge(impact and all). One stripped. So then we heated them and the other 2 came right out.

The 3rd stripped one we just blew out with the torch. After about 10 seconds we just blew a hole in the flexplate and converter, didn't want to, but was easiest and fastest at that point.
Since you're going to do a 6 speed swap it sounds like, just torch them out.

Lack of torch makes it a difficult option.
