Tranny cooler lines..size/how to
can someone tell me the diameter of the tranny cooler lines and what type of connection they use? Im trying to figure out a way to bypass the stock cooler to a high proformance one using AN fittings and braided lines. I don't have the car atm so I can't look for myself. Should I just cut the original lines and swedge? Should I just run braided hose the whole way? Can the original line ends be purchased seperatly? thanks!!

I'm using 1/2" NPT to -6 AN fittings, as it came from rossler that way. You are right though, you do the magilla garilla turn on NPT fittings no matter what App, you can crack the case...

Those are a great idea providing you have room in your vehicle in the tunnel area. I do not believe they will work for the rear fitting on a 99^ 4l80e in a fbody with out the use of a BFH! Thanks for the link. I have used the ones for -6 AN to 5/16 inverted on a couple of 400's and 350's using the factory fittings. Good info. Vince

they are 1/4-18 STRAIGHT thread (i think they call them NPTS)
i dont believe in CROSS threading reg pipe fittings in them, but then i have seen some vise grips used on bolts also, lol
for the rear fitting to clear my tunnel, i used the stock fitting, marked where it would point to the front when tight, then trimmed it down, used a 90 deg #6 to 1/4 pipe (steel) fitting and trimmed down the pipe end, tig welded the 2 fittings together, ended up with a short fitting-GM didnt do a lot of favors putting that fitting back there, but in a truck it had a lot of room, lol

I just went to a transmission shop and the guy gave me the brass fittings (straight thread not tapered) for a 400 trans (didn't go AN b/c I'm cheap). If you go this way, don't overtighten (brass into aluminum). The transmission guy told me to use Permatex Grey Silicone on the threads for sealant or else risk cracking the case. I put a 5/16" tube nut from O'Reilly and a double flare on the 5/16" tubing.
Did the cooler, lines, fittings for under 50 bucks this way. Beats the heck out of quick disconnect, braided hose, and AN fittings, in my opinion, as it would have been more than triple the cost.
Now hopefully the case won't crack.

So I went today to my local hose shop and got some 1/4" NPT barbed fittings. The 1/4" NPT male side I will thread into the trans and then the barbed side I will put my hose for my cooler on and clamp it down with a clamp. This should work correct? I will not thread the NPT fitting in very tight and I will put some thread sealant on it also.

Running -6 braided line all the way to
the trans is a waste of time in my opinion.
