Default Transmission Problem

Hello All,

I just installed a new 4L60E that was supposedly built for 700 hp by a reputable shop. Today i took it out for the first drive. It was shifting really softly in 2nd a little better in 3rd and forth and any time you gave it any throttle above 50% it would go straight to rev limiter but would drive fine other wise. So on the drive back it all of the sudden just dropped out a gear and won't shift into any gear now. I made sure the linkage was tight and also shifted through the gears and could hear click click from the linkage. I managed to put it in neutral and roll it back to my house but it won't move or anything in R, 1,2,3,4 . It has a 3000 edge racing stall if that helps. Also The shifter also seems to float through the gears easy as well. Anyone have any ideas? I really appreciate all the help. Thanks.

The shifter gliding though the gears would be the first thing there are several possibilities ranging from the cars shifter or linkage to the trans shift lever spring. The first thing I would do I would remove the cable from the trans and turn the linkage peice on the trans. you should fel a distinct click for each position If not remove the pan and look at the internal linkage,
On the issue with hitting the rev limiter and the soft feeling shifts at bellow WOT with a 3000 stall they wont feel very firm unless the shift takes place above stall speed and the rev limter issue may be tuning related some cars and particularly older PCM dont do at all well with a stall and require tuning to function correctly(stall wall they call it) , But one thing at a time check the shifter out first from the console to the trans. Good luck.

Dumb question, but have you checked the fluid level engine running in Park since you installed it...they take a ton of fluid.......

In that case I would check the linkage first as I explained above. And if thats good then its possible the pump is damaged or broken.

yes it clicked just fine. Would the fact that the tranny I put in cause this problem since its a 95+ and unknowingly i threw it in without deleting out the pwm? I'm hoping i didn't burn up my converter if that was the case. I pulled the pan and there was no metal only some clutch dust. Also the fluid isn't burnt or dark and converter was bolted on just fine, didn't see any problems there. I just now finally got back around to working on it but its ready to be pulled now.

No that would not cause this issue, Have you removed a line to see if when you start the car fluild sprays out ? Its possible the pump was damaged or has failed.

No i haven't tried that yet. I do remember hearing a distinct grinding type sound one you turned the car off and the motor was coming to a stop. It sounded like it was coming from the front of the tranny area, can't say that i've ever heard it before but i was never listening for that either. So if the pump is shot does that mean i need a complete transmission rebuild again?? Or can i just rebuild the pump again and the rest of the tranny will be fine? Sorry for all the questions, i'm just tired of spending money on this thing. Thanks for all your help.

Its possible you could just replace the pump depending on what kinda break it is an wether it looks like debris may have been pumps through the trans to valve body first. Thats a call that would have to be made after you inspect the pump. In most cases the worse case scenarios would be to have to go back through unit to clean it up ,
