Default 4l80e in a 05 GTO?

I'm looking for anyone who has done a 4l80e swap in a GTO. Has it happened yet?

Probably since when you get to the point of needing a 4L80E in a GTO you'd have already done a solid rear axle swap. I dont think the GTO is a good candidate for a 4L80E.

I am doing a Ford 8.8 as we speek. The 4l80 is the only transmission that I know of that will hold the kind of power I'm looking to make and also have an overdrive.

Being the first isn't always the easiest, that's for sure. Thanks for the encouragement!

You could always do a TH350 with a gear vendors.

gear vendors is an overdrive unit that bolts into the place of the tailshaft. It gives an overdrive for each gear so you effectively have a 6 speed th350. If I were going the gear vendors route I'd opt for a built powerglide/gearvendors combo. You'd have 1st, 1.5, 2nd, 2.5 (OD) I'm not sure of the ratios though.

quote from their site on the glide/GV combo.
Most cars with 1200hp or less will also find benefit in using 1st-over which will net a really nice 4spd spread of 1.76, 1.33, 1.00, 0.78.

In a heavy car like a GTO you would need either a lot of gear or a LOT of power to pull that first gear. That is a nice tight gear set though. The 4L80E can also be set up to use OD in any of the first 3 gears, basically being a 6 speed. They are basically just an electronic OD TH400.

Those are some really tall gears but the spread is really nice and would probably work great with my Procharger once I got rolling. I like the first gear of the 4l80 which is also the same in the TH400 I believe.

Yup the first three are the same as the TH400, only it has the .75 OD.
