Default Converter Switch: Vig to TCS

I've got the opportunity to get a TCS converter with a 3200 stall and a 2.5 STR for a really good
price and can sell my Vig 3200 for basically the same price. I do like the TCS warranty and restall package
better than Precision's. I did see a 2.8 sec/ 1mph increase with the Vig with my one and only track
appearance thus far this year. But, would I be better off going with the TCS in both terms of performance
and quality? Has anyone had both and can compare the two? I like TCS's customer service too.
Any advice would be appreciated!
Thanks!

Sorry, one thing I forgot to mention is that I want a converter that will give me the best "ON-THE-FLY
bang for the buck. If anyone can recommend a good TCS stall speed and STR combo for such, I would
greatly appreciate it too.
Thanks again!

Call up Derek @ TCS or Mikey @ Rapidmotorsports, tell them your mods now and what you plan for the future is and what you want out of the car/converter and they will recommend the right setup for you. I say go TCS for the reasons you just mentioned

I did talk to Derek and he suggested the 3200/2.5 combo, but I feel it might hit a little too hard off the line. I'm more concerned about getting the most kick I can get while on the fly. I will probably call up Rapid Motorsports and see what they suggest -
it can't hurt!

HEy man
I used to have a vig3200. I liked that converter alot but I have since switched to TCS converters. Derek is a great guy to deal with and his converters are Great. Ive had 2 different ones so far a 4400 with a 2.5 STR and my new one thats a 4200 with a 2.7 STR. Even though these converter have a high stall and higher STR`s they are more efficient than the Vig. So more low end and more top end with the TCS. Best warr out there also .

i dont see the point in paying for a verter swap if you are going from one 3200 to another 3200. I dont think its gonna be enough difference in the efficiency of the 2 to notice anything. Now Derek builds awesome verters so dont get me wrong. I just dont see why you should spend the money for swap to the same stall speed? If anything get a bigger stall from Derek

Well, now I'm even more confused. I called Derek and he said a 3200 with a 2.5STR. I called Mike at Rapid Motorsports and told him the exact same thing I told Derek. But, he suggested a 3800 with a 2.2STR. He said the 2.5 will hit too hard. I have decided to switch to TCS since it won't cost me anything to do so, but I'm stuck as to what combo to go with. I want something that will keep as much drivabikity as possible, but still hit fairly well while already in motion. What to do? Unfortunately, I have to make a decision in the next 48 hours.

I would probably go with what Mikey said; 3800 w/2.2 str. Will you be doing the install or a shop? You can always send it back and get the stall or str changed. If you've got the tires to handle it and you want some awesome 60' and are not worried about your rear end then a 2.5 str would be best, but you can have what ever str and stall you want, but I would at least upgrade on the stall to a 3600 or 3800.

If your concerned about breaking then try the 2.2str out and see if you want more hit from the converter but as far as the stall speed it's a matter of how loose you can handle. The 3600 will be about as loose as the Vig. 3200 because the Vig. is actually bigger than advertised. If it were me i would go with a 3800 with a modified 2.5str that will not hit the tires quite as hard and Derek can build it for you. This combo will give you more for your money over the Vig. 3200. My TCS out performs my old Vig. 3200 hands down but im hardcore when it comes to converters

My next TCS that is going in the car is a 4400/3.0 str Going to be a test converter to see if the car can handle it lol.

My buddy and I are going to do the install. I e-mailed Derek and mentioned everything I am concerned about,
so hopefully I'll get a response today. As long as I can change the stall speed and the STR I should be okay. I
would rather do it right the first time though. It's funny... I've never been so worried or so **** about anything like this
before in my life. I don't know why this is bothering me the way it is. I guess I've heard one too many complaint about
people getting a stall that didn't suit their requirements. Oh well.
Thanks for all the feedback and advice thus far. I appreciate it!

Actually, Derek called me in person. I e-mailed him late last night, and he called me first thing this
morning.
To rudde68, the Vig is sold and in a buddy's car already. Sorry!
I ended up going with the 3200/2.5 combo. Hopefully it will work well. From what Derek was saying,
I should be very happy with it.

I run the Yank Y3200/1.86 STR and want to move up to a 3800 stall. But honestly if all I get is .20 and 1 mph it sure isn't worth the change. I would like to see at least 3 tenths for that kind of $$$.

I'm sure more of a gain would have been achieved with a good set of sticky tires.

The best on the Yank was a 11.92 @ 115.90</a> w/1.74 60'in a +456 D/A ... the day after I posted the above I went back out and ran a 11.66 @ 117.21 w/1.64 60' in a +1931 D/A; had a another run that I went 117.9 on a spinning launch.

I'll take 2.5 tenths and 2 MPH while giving up almost 1500 feet in D/A ... M
