Hello,

Can any one tell me if a 200R4 trans. would be a direct bolt on to the LS1? Or what the difference would be? I got a Art Carr trans. that was built for a Grand National for up to 800 hp.

Also would the torque converter be the same? This one is a non lockup.

There was a topic about this setup a while back. Try searching for the 200R4. I know Weatherguy is running a 200R4 and he might see this post and lend a hand. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

 

Thanks for reply. I did do some searching but no one said if it was a direct fit or not. If LS1 flexplate can be used or if converter from 200 will work.

Something else just occurred to me the 200-4R has a mechanical speedo cable, doesn't the LS1 require a Vehicle Speed Sensor or a signal for the computer? Is there a way around that or something to bolt on?

 

200-4Rs have dual purpose bolt patterns - they can bolt right up. Basically, they have the same size/shape as a TH350, so everything that is involved with that can be applied to the 200-4R. You will need a shifter though, a TV cable, kickdown linkage, etc. I have a custom ratchet shifter that Mike Kurtz fabricated for me out of a B&M kit designed for the Gen III Camaro - be aware that there are no direct ratchet shifters that I know of, though you can use the stock one with some modifications.

The torque converter needs to be designed for the 200-4R.

What did you do about the vehicle speed sensor, or I should say lack of, for the 200-4R?

Did you use the LS1 flexplate? And a 200-4R converter?

Also, be aware some but NOT ALL of the 2004R's have the dual bellhousing bolt pattern...... if yours doesn't, you should be able to buy a BOP to Chevy type adapter from Trans-dapt or somebody like that.

You're right about that!
The 2004R and LS1 were never intended to work together so Yank has a billet aluminum adapter plate that bolts to the rear of the engine block, with 2 long lowel pins for allignment.

I had a 2004R from Yank and that was set up to run a mechanical speedometer. They machined a stock T-56 speedo reluctor wheel to press fit on the the transmission's output shaft, and drilled the side of the transmission case to weld a bung so a stock T-56 speed sensor could be inserted.
The Yank convertor bolted right up to my A4 flexplate, but had to drill more holes because it had more lugs on the convertor.
