Default Paging: All non-stock A4 guys

How much horsepower are you guys running on a stock (or stock rebuilt) A4? I know that once you get into things like forced induction and head/cam combos, you need to get your trans beefed up, but I was just wondering what some of you are running, and if it is holding up?

The reason I ask is that my transmission was rebuilt 5,000 miles ago. Back then, my engine was stock. I did my heads/cam install this spring, and completed it the week before Memorial Day. Since then, I've put less than 1,000 miles on the car, and my trans already went out. The trans shop is trying to blame my mods.

My car has never been to the track, and apart from the dyno runs, and maybe one or two speed demonstrations on the highway, the car is pretty tamely driven.

Unfortunately that kind of power will ultimately eat a stock (or a stock rebuilt) A4.
It's a GREAT trans for a stock or mild bolt on car but once you put some real power (370+rwhp/rwtq) through it then it just says "no".

My trans grenaded immedietly after cam & converter. Now have Speed Inc stage II - we'll see how it holds up. I'm suprised at it though- I thought that it would shift much harder than it does. It's firm, but not HARD.

I have about 55 passes and 4000 miles since I did my H/C - 403 rwhp/388 rwtq ... 31000 miles total and over 450 passes ... tranny is still stock.

I curious as to how everyone is launching? I always breake stall ... My friend with a ST3500 who always flashes off of idle has rebuilt his tranny twice ... M

good thread.....

after getting my h/c job done about 9 months ago, i thought it a good idea to rebuild the tranny...did that about 2 months ago, but it crumbled on me right after....intake drum failed...had it fixed...now something else is wrong...i'll be taking it in next week for a new tor. conv....

i've been told that "with a proper rebuild" you can beef up a stock A4 so that it will handle up to 550 hp....but maybe not, huh?

Mystic.....that's an interesting thought...i usually flash it...maybe more will respond so we can see if this is something to avoid...

Hey Constrictor

I am currently running a TCS stage 3 tranny. I installed it like a month ago. This tranny feels very good with all the power I am putting through it. Our setups are simular so I think It would work very nicely with your combo.I dynoed 421 rwhp and there is no slippage what so ever.I used to run a stock tranny on my old cam only setup but that only made 366 rwhp as soon as this h/c went on I blew the stock unit making my first pass.
Give Derek at TCS a call ------------------>
They are a sponsor so you cant go wrong.Great Warr Plus there converters are unreal.

A properly built A4 with a properly tuned car can handle the power of a H&C's A4. Just remember that if the tuning is off, then the inputs to the computer under-report the torque being made and dial up the wrong line pressure & shift time.

My first 4L60E died with 55,000 miles and a K&N filter, that's it! My second one, stock from GM, has withstood many 480+ rwhp/600+ rwtq passes launching on the bottle and spraying through the shifts on a 4400 stall finishing in freaking overdrive! Go figure!

Will a re-built beefed-up 4L60E withstand some power? That is what I'm looking into doing, and need some suggestions. Please e-mail me Michaelozorowsky@hotmail.com. Thanks.
