Default Best gear and stall combo?

What is the best gear and stall combo for a basically stock a4 LS1?(slp loud mouth and whisper lid) I am looking to do some small modding without going crazy on cash. I was thinking 3.73 gears 3800 stall and maby a underdrive pully kit.

3.73's and the Yank PT4000 would be a great combo I hear. I have the 3.73's already, they are fun. I will be going with a PT4000 sometime next year.

I think that would suit you just fine! I don't like to see the stall speed much higher than that in a relatively stock combination personally. I think with the gear and the converter together it will be a fun ride... definately going to wake it up!

I personally feel that a 3,800 rpm stall converter is overkill for the street... But many many guys run them and swear by them.

I am running a yank 3600 in my LT1 SS, and i love it. I still have stock gears but those will be gone soon and my 3.90's will be going in.

Leave the gears alone and get the stall.

i had 3800 and 2.73's and it was just fine. for a max effort street car that wont see any other power adders i'd run a 4200 stall and 4.10's

I have three different answers.

If the car is street only and you want street manners and decent MPG then I say Yank SS3600 and 3.23 (if you have them) or upgrade to 3.42's if you have the crappy 2.73's.

If the car is a street/strip car that's more street then strip then I say Yank SS4000 and 3.23's or 3.42's.

If the car is a street/strip car that see's a lot of strip and or a weekend warrior duty then I say Yank PT4000 and 3.73 gears.
