Default WTF!!!!! Tranny wont shift from 1st

Hello
this is my 3rd time having this problem! The first transmission i had in i had to let off the gas to come out of 1st gear, so i rebuilt it and it worked for 2 days then quit and wouldnt go over 35mph, so i thought its the torque converter so i replaced that and the problem continued. so i bought another trans today put it in and it was riding and shifting gears really nice then it started to take off slugish and then eventually would not go over 35 or 1st gear, but i do have reverse but i always had reverse!!! please if any one has a comment or a solution tell me!!
Oh and the sensor that goes into line block is broken could that cause it?!?!?!?!
thanks

The sensor that you are referring to is probably a temp sensor. I would not think that would keep your trans in first gear. Are you sure that it is 1st gear that it stays in or could it possibly be 3rd? Are you getting any other transmission codes?

i dont think it is 3rd i goes to 35mph and by that time the engine is almost over reving but i dont know if i have any codes i do not have a scanner and cant drive the car far because i cant move fast. but i am really getting pissed off because this is the 2nd transmission that has done this so i know it cant be the same thing wrong in both transmissions it might be external like my wireing

Are you sure that this is a trans problem and not a drivability problem or plugged exhaust. We are talking about two different transmissins with the same problem? How does the motor run? Stuck in first gear has me stumped. Vince

Maybe a shorted wiring harness grounding both the shift solenoids? Or maybe a bad PCM its kinda hard to say without a scan tool . I can email you some simple test to see if these solenoids are always turned on. Then at least you would know to back up through the wiring harness and PCM. But is strange to be stuck in first it either has to be commanded or the harness or pcm have to be shorted I would think.

Don't know much about Caprices, or if the 60e in that is the same as an LS1 Fbody??? But I had this same problem with my Jeep Grand Cherokee, and it was a bad speed sensor...Just food for thought. Sensor costs like 20-30 bucks and takes about 5 minutes to replace...

The one in the back of the transmission, on the passenger side, if it's the same as an LS1 Fbody...not sure whether or not it is.
