Question Stall

I'm installing a 224/224 .563/.563 112 LSA cam and was wondering if a stall is a must with this cam or if I can wait a little while on the stall? I'm lookin to keep the daily drivability as much as I can. When I get a stall it won't be anything over 3000.

A cam and stall go hand and hand. If you do not install a stall with a cam the driveability will be ****. A stall really isn't that bad, I'd say atleast a 3200. I dont know if you know anything about stalls or not, but the stall will not actually flash the number that they designated by. It's usually a few hundred less than the advertised number.

If you do not get a stall, it is possible for it to actually be slower than before. It can stumble and fall on its face. It will try and push through the brakes, and will be a pain in the ***.

Actually 98Camarod, no. With a stock stall, a cam that small the stock stall will work with it. With cams of 228 duration is when you really need to consider a stall, but you can still drive the car without a stall, it just won't be optimal for racing from a stop. Pushing through the stall comes from to high of an idle rpm, that cam should idle around 700rpms, not enough to cause driveability problems. The 3000 stall is a good match to that cam, bigger would be better obviously. For street manners, go with an STR of 2.2 of higher. So Coldsteel327, you can wait to get a stall, just make sure you get a good tuner that will address part throttle issues, not only idle and wot.

I drove a 224/224 Thunder Racing cammed car without a stall and I disagree 12secSS. So say what you want, the car was tuned and it was a turd.

yeah a stall is a must.... i would agree and say nothing smaller than a 3200. i put a yank ss 3600 in mine and i cant even tell that the car has a stall until i get on it. i wish that i would have went with a 4000 but i was afraid to go that big before. next time i will go with a 4000+.

I run a 226/226 patriot cam with the stock stall and it drives every bit as good as stock with just a slightly raised idle, and runs hard. Definately more power off idle than before. If you've got the resources to get a great tuner on the car, it is no problem.

Do it.

There are actually a lot of guys that run stock stalls with aftermarket cams. One guy even did a MS4 with a stock stall (don't ask me how). It can be done but it might not be quite as friendly as the stock cam was. When you get your converter, you'll really wake it up. 12SecSS nailed it....I'd listen to him.

get the ss series from yank...one of the tightest stalls out there and will feel pretty close to stock...i know you dont wanna go above 3000 but the ss3200 is like another brands 2900-3000 stall size...

my vote ss3200 or ss3600...

remember if looking at vig another great converter they stall around 400 higher than stated...3200 more like 3600...

I would recommend looking into the Yank ss series converter mainly the 3200 or 3600. There are videos online that show you how they perform for daily driving.

The stock converter really sucks imo I can't wait to get it out.

i would say 3200 at the least.....ive seen and driven cammed cars without a stall...my buddy did the TR224 on the stock stall and its driveable just fine....he also did the ms4 on the stock stall and it was driveable but not a whole lot of fun.....u really should get the stall for performance, but u dont HAVE to with that small of a cam.

It can be done but you will be leaving a ton of time on the table in the 1/4 mile with a stock stall as the car lugs through the low RPMs out of its powerband.
