My car seems slow from a roll?
Hey guys. I have been doing some roll racing when I'm not at the track since it puts less stress on the drivetrain. Although I've never lost a race yet, a couple of them have been closer than I think they should've been.
I was going to put this in the street racing forum, but it's kind of an A4 specific question.
The last two races I've done have been against friends. One has a '97 Cobra with an ORX and Flowmaster catback with 4.10's. The other has a Cobalt SS stage II at about 235whp. They are both M6 cars. Also, I had a passenger when I raced the Cobalt.
After the honks, I mash down the gas and they both got the jump on me. It seems like I'm losing ground off the bat since the car has to downshift then get back up into the powerband. Once I am in the upper RPM's, I pulled on both of them.
Any advice on how to fix this? I know gears will make going from a roll easier, and I know that getting a stall will help from a roll too. But do you guys have any other tips?
My car recently put down 325whp on a Mustang dyno (gotta update my sig), and my track time is listed there too. What gives?

And/Or gear.. and have it in the right gear before you start the race! I think that will alleviate the biggest problem.
And know your strong spots... anywhere above 20mph and nothing over 35, we are at a major disadvantge when our cars shift into 3rd gear because they fall on their face, so start the race low.

When I do a forty roll I manually put the car in second. 20 roll put it in first.
Floor the car on the second honk it will go on the third honk. And you wont get left off the line.
I have a large stall and I saw .5 second delay from when I went WOT untill it "hit" according to my logs.
Brake stall the car. Run about 25-35% TPS and drag the brakes to control the start speed. That loads the converter and will give you a much harder hit.
This would be hypothetical of course because street racing is illegal and I would never do that
If you have a stock converter then for gods sake get at least a 3500 stall converter it will make a huge difference.

It's just the nature of the beast. A4's are not good roll racers unless they are set up for it. I wasn't happy with mine even with full bolt-ons and a cam until I put the PT4400 in. I used to run a SS4000 and it was ok, but still didn't pull that well on the highway. PT4400=problem solved. Get a good stall that's efficient up top and you'll be loving life.
