Default Transmission Problem

Ok, I bought a transmission of a LS1tech member. A 04' GTO 4L60E with 14k miles on it. The guy rebuilt the insides of the transmission to make it hold some serious HP. Also, i purchased his re-stalled 3500 TCI converter.

When I first got it installed it wouldn't shift into 2nd,or 3rd. So I had the silinoids changed, then it worked fine. Except for this problem. The problem is that under WOT it will not shift, all it does is bang the Rev Limiter. If I let off it will shift fine. On the other hand, if I give it 50% throttle (while going faster than 40mph) then go WOT it works (most of the time)

If im on the interstate driving at 70MPH and go WOT, there are absolutely no problems. I have changed shift points, revlimiters, shift MPH and everything I can think of. Any thoughts?

Well, we tried that today, but for somereason the data logger didn't keep the info. He had before though and said the it was telling it to shift. But just wouldn't. It doesn't feel like its slipping but something is wrong.

Its hard to say could be a trans or a tuning issue, But if the shifts being comanded and the shift point is not set to close to the rev limiter I would lean towards some trans issue,

Well, he even set the MPH really low like

1 29mph
2nd 47mph

and the shift points at 5500 and the rev limiter at 6200 and it still would not shift under WOT.

Well as I said you may have a transmission problem , Could be presure related. Wrong holes enlarged in a shift kit. Its very hard to say on something like this, Transmision can malfunction in other ways besides slipping .

Man you as the really hard questions, It would take a shop with the time and resources to take the trans at least the valve body down and look and visually inspect and see if theres a problem there, Then if not there pull the trans and tear down and look for a reason , It could actually become quite costley. Could even rival the cost of a replacement built trans.

Well based on what you have said your best sure move would be to just get a trans from us or someone, Thats the most sure fix. Esspecially since you dont know the details of the build you have , Is the original builder not available?

His name is Chad. He is from CT. and he works as a GM Tech. He sold it based out of a GM Dealer, so I assumed it was up to par. My mechanic called the shop and told them what he has been doing, and asked if they would warrentee my tranny, they didn't know and didn't seem to care.

Apparently he is buying junk trans, repairing them and selling them for a killing, aswell as buying stalls, sending them in to be rebuilt and doing the same with them.

Ouch ! I dont know of much you can do. Its gonna be hard to get someone to go on a fishing expedition on that trans, You could maybe try a valve body and new plate, But thats still going to cost a bit .

Would depend on where you got them , We normally dont sell parts but I can check and see if we might have them available. But even with them its still a crap shoot , It may fix it may have no effect at all and you have wasted money. Optionally you could get them from the GM dealer however I would guess that would be quite exspensive 500+ dollars and again no garantees it would fix the problem , I know I am not the bearer of good news. You have a bad situation I am afraid,

How much could I sell this core for? I mean, it runs fine, except on WOT.

Also, could it not be the converter?
