how to spray 4l60e
I do not recommend spraying through the shifts. Make sure to have a window switch setup that shuts the nos off before the shift happens and then brings it back on after. I'm sure more guy's will post up on their specific setups. Vince
I run a dry kit, no window switch. I built my tranny and it is pretty stout. I sprayed off the line (125 hp) and through the shifts all last season without any tranny problems (best ET of 11.36). The only thing that I broke was a 4.11 ring gear. Specs on the tranny are Alto Red Eagle clutches with Kolene Steels throughout, 9 clutch 3-4 clutch pack, dual element sprag, stock planetaries, Transgo HD2 shift kit, .510 boost valve, carbon wide band, billet 2-4 servos, 28,000 GVW cooler, and has a vig 3600. I set up my 3-4 clutches at .015 and don't remember the others, but I know all clutch tolerances were set up tighter than stock. The car is now cammed and I will be installing my window switch 3000 on and 6100 off.

You'll obviously endure wear quicker spraying through the shifts, but if it don't eventually break then you aren't trying. How long will a stock tranny last and how long will a built tranny last, well there's no way to know. If you maintain and tear down every year on a built tranny the chances of something breaking are greatly reduced. I cannot afford to do this, so when it breaks, I fix it. I got a full season of low to mid 11's last year and am shooting for mid 10's this coming season. Right now my I have several weak links and the tranny is probably the strongest moving part on the car.
With a larger converter like a 4000 the purpose that the window switch would serve is to cut the nitrous off before it shifts and then cut back on once the rpms reduce, correct? I've read that you don't want to spray lower than 3,000 rpm, but my converter flashes more than that so spraying off the line isn't the problem. It would be spraying through the shifts like you all are talking about that does the damage.

Many of our customers do spray through the shifts, We havent noticed any increase in failures due to this. However that does not mean it will not increase long term wear. We have no preference however allways be sure to compensate in tuning for shift time, Where just engine for example it may take 200 rpm from command to actual shift , But because the rate of RPM increase is quicker with NOS and the time from command to a shift is a constant it may take another 300 rpm to make the same shift on the GAS . So for instance you are set to shift at 5700 and your rev limter is set to 6000 it may be fine on just engine, But with NOS due to the faster rise in RPM you may hit the rev limiter.

I might spray that 4l80e I got from performabuilt through shifts once I get it in. My built 4l60e started to hit the rev limiter on the 2-3 shift once I upped the shot. I figured I race alot and I might as well spend money on a 4l80e and get something that should last.
I run a lot of spray through my 4L60E. Its a Finishline Level 4 unit. ( I assembled it they spec'd it and sent the parts)
I Made 185 trouble free passes this year with this unit best of 10.66@129 1.50Sixty in a 3800lbs truck. That was sprayin a 175shot through the shifts.
A great idea is a progressive controller, it will reduce the initial shock applied to the transmission. I run the FJO unit allowing the nitrous to ramp in.
You can spray through the shifts, It will reduce clutch life but it can be done. Like Frank (performabuilt) said you may have to compensate in the tune to achive desired shift points. I offset an extra 100rpm.
A big cooler and fresh fluid regularly is Mandatory. I change trans fluid every 3000 miles or 50 passes. I see a lot of track use.
Omega Doom: I sprayed a Yank SS3600 No problems no shift troubles or blowing through. I stepped to a SS4200 and had to increase my window and rev limiter to avoid it. Originally set at 6500 off and 6800 rev limit would cause "blow through" I upped the limiter to 7200 and sprayed all the way to 7000 no problems.

Depends on how your trans is built, you look at one sponsors built trans and it says it'll hold 800hp.
Theres no reason not to use nitrous through the shifts if you're making under 800hp on nitrous with this trans.
What if you had a car that made 790hp without nitrous, the trans would see the same power level.
I have no idea how anyone can even guess at an answer to this one sentence.
To answer it with any accuracy at all you need to at least know whats been done to the trans and how much power you're putting to it.
