Yank 4000SS w/ 18" BFG Drag Radials....streetability & performance??
I'm looking at purchasing an A4 car w/ bolt-ons including a Yank 4000SS and it has 18" chrome Z06 wheels. First off, how streetable is that Yank 4000 SS? This car has 3.42 gears.
I had a '98 Formula w/ 3.23s some years back and I had a Vig 2800 which was great but small, a Yank 4200 or 4400 which was a bit big for the street, and a 3400 (forget the brand??) which was fine. I believe the Yank that I had was either a 4200 or 4400 w/ STR of 3.0 and it was impossible to get it to hook with a stockish suspension regardless of tires. I don't want a convertor that will hit THAT hard again.
Also, the guy selling the car mentioned it has hooked on the street pretty well with the 18" BFG drag radials. Can I cut 1.6s on 18" BFGs or is that a pipe dream?
I'm thinking/hoping 3.42s with a 4k stall will feel quite a bit tighter than what my old car had when it was a 4200+ w/ 3.23s. Am I correct?
Also, is that Yank 4000 SS a nice locking comvertor? I definately want it to lock-up once I am on the highway.
Thanks!!
I do like the car alot so I'm thinking even if the 18" make it hard to hook I can buy 2 17" chrome Z06 wheels for the track and put a 275 MT drag radial which should be more than enough to hook.

If I do end up snagging this car I'll end up with a set-up very similiar to yours. The car won't be my daily driver but I would like to be able to take it on long drives, maybe take it to Myrtle Beach w/ the wife etc. Years back I ran a T1 224/224/ .558/,558. Any suggestions on what cam would run well with this combo??

I have an SS3800 and with 3.23s around town, it's great. Yeah, it's a little loose, and I have to keep the RPMs around 2700 to keep up with traffic, in stop-and-go, but after I get into third, it'll lock-up just fine and there are no problems locking-up on the freeway either. I have it tuned, so it doesn't act up (as long as I don't drive in town in Overdrive) and is great at the track.
I couldn't tell you if you'd run 1.6s with the 18"s but I bet you could if you add a little more gear. I think you'll be pleased either way.

The PT is much looser than the SS. But IMO it outshines the SS everywhere. I liked my SS4000, but I absolutely love my PT4400. The SS never felt like it had the top-end I was looking for. The PT has sick top-end, and is a beast everywhere else too (low-end, mid-range). Anyone who's ever said an A4 car isn't about top-end has never driven a car with a PT. It pulls harder/faster above 100 than it does below. It's streetable with 3.23's, but I'll be putting some 3.90's or 4.10's in this spring to tighten things up some.

I forget what my 05 GTo stock gears are. I want to say something like 3.43, but later on I'll be swapping in 3.90. That's the biggest we can go in our cars. I think I'll go with the SS4000. It'll be my first stall but compared to the cam I'm putting in, it matches up great. So it'll all just come down to the tune.
