Default converter locked vs unlocked on dyno

[IMG][/IMG]

picked up around 40 hp and 50 torque all the way across. motor was breaking up up top so it only made 25hp more at peak.

It looks like something is choking it, carb, intake, or exhaust. It's a relatively small cam, but you should still make more power than that.

I think my unlocked numbers were pretty close to your losses too.

ive got a converter from a non sponsor here. its a lockup obviously but its all billet and was built so i can lock the converter in an gear under wot. at the track i have been locking the converter as soon as i hit 2nd gear. people say it will give you more mph but a slower et. never saw how that was possible. from what i can tell i have picked up around 1-2mph and 1-2 tenths at the track. everyone was saying that it was an ineffiecent converter and thats how i pick up so much at the track but as you can see its not if i pick up about as much as everyone else. lockup is a better converter if you were planning on buying one. most converters arent made to be locked at wot but will help your fuel economy allowing you to run a big converter and still have low cruising RPM.

I'm no expert, by any means, but the only considerations for either a lock-up or non-lock-up are if the car is, or isn't going to be street driven, and whether or not you'd want to lock it up down the track. I've been told that if you get an efficient enough converter, locking it would not be necessary.

To me, I like the idea of a locking converter just to have on the street.

JMHO.

Agreed. That thing should be making over 475/475 at the flywheel.

You may be able to get away with that if you have a built tranny, but I've seen that result in the death of the stock tranny.

You should be getting a lot of torque multiplication on the 1-2 upshift. If you are gaining ET on NA passes by locking up below 5500 rpm, your converter isn't a very good one. I can see with a 125 shot it would help, but that's because nitrous is a special animal.

yea i bumped the shot up to a 175 last week and im running out of gear up top with the converter locked. im letting off just before the lights if i wasnt locked i would run out of gear long before the lights. on motor there isnt very much of a gain but on bottle there is a good amount
