Default 1-2 gears feel like your standing on the brake?????

got the tranny back wed night....drove fine. went to work thurs and drive fine all day. got home and started to go out last night and the car literally feels like you are standing on the brakes trying to powerbrake or something. if you are cruisin at low speed, and drop it into 2nd, it will damn near lock the wheels up like you hit the brakes???

WTF?????

I'm in the process of building up my 4L60E for my tow vehicle Z-71(practicing for the TA). ... There is some type of tech bulletin out there that advises removing the 3/4 clutch return springs for an increase clamping force effect. ... Performance Trans shift kit improvers frown on this practice due to it leads to 3/4 clutch drag on 3-2 kick down and high rev centrifugal oil residual apply force during 1st and 2nd. ... Makes one think that a looser clutch pack clearance set up is a better built hot rod trans.

Could this be some of you transmission issues?

... Ron

Well, the 3-4 works fine once it gets to those gears. its just the 1-2 wont hardly budge when you mash the pedal.

the only thing that is changed is the shift points. raised to 6k and just the basic TM stuff. but the tranny shop is saying i need to raise the line pressures higher than stock. but that still wouldnt cause the tranny to mess up in less that 50 miles, i wouldnt think?

If your 3/4 clutch was not set up right it will drag when it's not in use(during 1st & 2nd). A draging clutch will first warp its steel plates(making it drag worse), eventaly smoking the plates, burn the piston seal out and loose the clutch all together. ... If this is going on with your trans your fluid will be slowly burning and getting darker. I'm just baseing this prognosis on the fact that your trans was just gone through, and now you have a developing problem, symtomatic of a draging 3/4 clutch(from your description).

Dude: in a 4L60E Trans you have 5 clutches, 1 band, a sprag and 1 roller clutch(8 hard items).

To put the Trans in say 1st gear, you "hold" or apply a combination of 3, the remaining 5 hard items need to "free spin". 2nd gear uses a combination of 3. 3rd gear uses a combo of 3, and 4th uses a combo of 3.

When one of these 8 hard items does not fully "hold" then the Trans will feel like it is slipping. … When one of these 8 hard items does not fully "free spin" then the Trans will feel like it is dragging.

By taking your description of operation "Dragging 1st / 2nd, 3rd / 4th ok" one can simply look at a Trans component application chart specific to your Trans and see where a problem may lie.

Does this make any more or less sense to you?

well got an update on the tranny. Supposedly i broke a hardened drum. well this is the 3rd i have broke in 6 months. Apparently they think its my computer causing the prob. i find that hard to believe since i am on a BONE stock tune right now. They say since i am up there in HP/TQ i need to raise my line pressures to compensate for the increase.

Ron,
I know in my tranny they put 9 clutches in. And tranny's arent my thing. so it makes sense but i still am kinda at a loss with this thing. THANK GOD its under warranty.
