PATC has developed a 6-pinion planet gear set for 700R4 / 4L60E transmissions
I talk to them and they are expecting them anytime now and price is around $700.

thats great but why would they work on a part that doesnt really have any problems with it,, the gm 4 for low hp and gm 5 pinions for higher hp seem to work just fine. they should make a new input drum with better clutch capacity, and a better snap ring set up, then they would have a part worth some money!

Hmmm, four seems to work ok. Most broken input drums come from units with unbroken planetaries so I agree with jay lt4.
Unless they built a different ratio into them or something.

it has .64 final ratio here I copy&paste

"The Next Big Thing". PATC has developed a 6-pinion planet gear set for 700R4 / 4L60E transmissions. This will be the biggest thing in 700R4 advancements in years. These will have a 2.66 to 1 first gear, 1.55 to 1 second gear, 1 to 1 third gear and .64 to 1 overdrive ratio. This is a 36% overdrive making this one of the best overdrive ratios around. The 1st to 2nd RPM drop between gears would be slightly less than the RPM drop on a 200-4R transmission. This is what people have been asking for, for years. These will work on any 4L60E type transmission without a gear ratio error code, if the PCM is modified. This gear set is used to reduce torque multiplication / rotating speed in the transmission in first gear. This improves track applications that overpower the rear tires upon launch. This is common with numerically high final drive ratios. (IE 3.06). Now you will have a choice between the wide ratio or the new close ratio gear sets. The first 50 are in production now and the approximate release date is 12-26-2007.

Well...I do like that someone has done something about that huge jump between 1st and 2nd gears.

Weak links remain in the 4L60E, true enough. This, however, is a neat idea provided the parts hold up.

.............1st........2nd......3rd......4th
PATC.....2.66......1.55.......1........0.64
OE........3.06......1.63.......1........0.696 (from gmpowertrain.com)

Having played with a few NA/boosted applications using the 4L60E, I could see some advantages to narrowing the gap between 1st and 2nd as far as minimizing the rpm drop between 1st and 2nd. This would rely a bit more on the torque of the engine tho. The acceleration advantage of reduction in rpm drop could be countered by the steeper first gear. I could also see where a little taller gear in first might help with traction. None of the applications I played with were seriously pushing the capabilities of the 4L60E though.

From the standpoint of the gear ratio changes, I'd like to hear some input from the quicker & more experienced straightliners....GIVEN:
a street/strip application like our cars (mildly heavy)
a power level where a seriously built 4L60E would be a viable option

Ask them if C&K is making that planet. If so run like hell.

I'd rather see someone step up and make an affordable hardened output shaft...I could use one for under $600...

Yeah, $600 for a 300M output shaft is pretty steep.
