An auto with stall converter, shiftkit, and hypertech tuning is faster than manuel in 1/4mile.... true or false?

stock 6spd will win qtr but with kit and converter you will defniteately have the advantage with a auto in fact auto with kit and converter should win on street too from a roll or stand still the only time manual would win is either in auto cross or in highway raceing (where gear selection is needed) (imo)... for qtr think of it this way with a 3400 rpm lock up converter you should drop a half of sec over stock which would leave you faster than a stock 6spd but on the other side a 6spd can take more hp stock so it will allow you to put your money into the enging instead of upgrading the tranny. but again the other side to that is if you ask any gm service tech they will tell you that bent bushrods or broken springs or snapped drive shafts are a hell more common with 6spd then autos so i guess the debate continues if t add anything more to thind id guess id have to qutoe a post i read a few weeks back that said "with an auto you can drive and eat a cheezeburger"

Stab and steer. I had an M6 and all it was good for was frying clutches. I lost to cars with bonestock motors, the same shot of nitrous, and a big converter so much that I devoloped a nervous tick everytime an A4 challenged me.

I say the M6 is fun as hell. But on the strip or street the car with an auto and the same mods will always win with a big converter. Hence my descision to sell my M6, brand new clutch and adjustable MC.
Who needs a clutch when you have a transbrake and a big stall. And yes, eating cheeseburgers is much easier with an auto.

I'll put in my take because I have also owned both a 6 speed and an A4 LS1. The 6 speed is fun on the street, no doubt about it. You can definitely produce great times with either trans, there's no doubt about that. The trend seems to be that you will work a bit harder and possibly spend a little more money to get the same times, to me at least. I say this for a few reasons. If you are really after some seriously good 60 ft times, a 12 bolt or 9 inch rear is pretty much a must in a 6 speed car. I've seen 6 speed cars break the stock gears having never produced a 60 ft time below 2.0. The A4 rear ends seem to last longer. I can tell you that not wanting to pay for an aftermarket axle was one of the biggest reasons why I bought an A4 my second car. I was also getting tired of clutch/hydraulic problems with my M6. I actually enjoy my auto a lot.

As was mentioned above, two cars with the same mods and skilled drivers in both cars, The automatic with the big converter will almost always win.

Guess I need a bigger converter. Because I can't get a M6 from a roll.

True, the 6 speed cars with the same mods can be dangerous from a roll no matter what converter you have, but the original question in this post was about which has the advantage in the 1/4 mile. I guess when I think of racing, I usually think of drag racing. I don't race on the street too much.

Without a doubt an A4 has the advantage. I beat up on M6's at the track.

since that is settled, i have a new question.
how much stall does one have to have in order to be faster then an M6 in the 1/4 mile?
is 2800 enough? or do you have to have to go pretty big?
anyone know?

i wanna say have atleast 3200. I am in the process of finding a good one right ow. I think 2800 is too low. unless you get the vig 2800 which is really like 3200.
