Default transmission troubles

I know I've got problems, I'm just not sure what they are yet and I hope you guys can help. I have a modded 93 GM truck (I know, not an F or Y body) that I need help dignosing. On a couple of occasions, when I would go WOT from low rpms, I have heard a gosh awful metal to metal sound like somthing broke loose, and the truck would stop accelerating. After easing back into the throttle, it was as if nothing had happened, It had only happened a couple of times, and the rest of the time it ran flawlessly. Yesterday, while trying to address a slight flooding issue, I took off hard from a standstill ,and it made a very loud noise. I immediatly got off of the throttle, then eased back into it and it seemed fine except that this time it didn't appear to shift out of 3rd gear, (or convertor lock up) Have I got transmission woes, or TC problems. I guess the loud metallic noise is what is throwing me, along with the fact, that it seems to perform perfectly afterwards (until yesterday).
Does anyone have any ideas
Thanks

well my friend you have an internal issue sounds like the 3-4 is staying applied either mechanically or hydraulic.....i would be willing to bet that the forward sprag is broke. You will be needing a new unit at this point

It's difficult to remember because of course I wasn't expecting it, but it was either 1st or 2nd. (I BELIEVE it was first.) The first time it happened,(a couple months ago) I was running about 10-15mph, and went full throttle, it downshifted, and after approx 2 secs. it sounded like gears stripping (loud) and lost forward momentum. I lifted, then eased back into it,and it ran like nothing was wrong. It only does it on hard accelleration from a low speed or stopped. I can nail it in 3rd or overdrive over and over, and it performs perfectly.

So you guys definitly think this is a tansmission issue and not the TC or anything else?
Any more guesses (given the info in my last post) as to what it might specifically be?

It's definitely internal for it to cause a neutral condition. A sprag or a low roller would be my first guess with noise that you described. Also taking the conditions of when it happens into consideration, it does not sound good. Sorry to say but I think you need a transmission. Vince
